Case File One

A thousand years have passed since the Human Emperor founded the Sheng Kingdom. The demon clan, dormant for centuries, is now restless, no longer content to hide in the dark like rats.

Over the past three hundred years, there have been countless cases of demons harming people. To keep the people safe, the royal family has concealed every case connected to demons in Case File No. 1.

All cases involving inhuman acts are handed over to the Office of Surveillance.

In the capital stands a strange tavern. It opens to customers only at midnight each day, but charges no money. Guests need only sign their names, and they may drink whatever they like. Stranger still, although the tavern is right there, no one seems to notice it.

In the eleventh year of Yongle, thirteen murders occur in quick succession in the capital. Every victim has had their heart cut out. The investigating censor hands the cases to the Office of Surveillance, where he unexpectedly discovers the eerie tavern, and in doing so, learns the identity of its owner.

Humans, demons, ghosts, and monsters, caught up in all their entanglements. Who among them is not swept up in this mortal world? Who can escape the word "fate"?
