There Is Still Hope for Tomorrow

[No Transmigration or Rebirth + Case-of-the-Week + Broken Mirror]

Meng Zhaoming was supposed to have the day off. After catching a pickpocket on the street, he met a woman as cold as frost and snow. The next day, he was astonished to discover that the newly appointed county magistrate was not only a woman, but the very same woman he'd met the day before!

“What? Your neighbor stole and ate your ox? Oh, if you're that upset, I'll send you to keep it company.”

“Hm? You say this young woman abandoned her own father? Goodness, don't cry. Since you miss your beloved wife so much, I'll help make your wish come true.”

“What? There's a ghost in the ruined temple south of town? Wonderful! I've never seen a ghost before. Why don't you take me to have a look?”

“...”

Meng Zhaoming thought the new magistrate was fooling around all day. She was always saying outrageous things, yet somehow she kept solving cases.

Later, Meng Zhaoming noticed that more and more people were gathering around Magistrate Xia, and every one of them was odd...

There was a disfigured young woman who never changed her expression, a female coroner who was always expressionless, and a physician who was drunk every day. There was also a young woman who seemed to be from the capital, yet was even better at martial arts than he was!

Later still, Meng Zhaoming realized that everyone seemed to have a past they didn't want to look back on. His magistrate had once been a wayward young woman who loved teasing cats and dogs, so why had she become the person she was today?
