Children of the Grasslands [The 1960s]

In 1960, natural disasters caused widespread famine across the country. Inner Mongolia, acting out of boundless compassion, stepped forward and volunteered to take in children who were on the verge of starving to death.

As a result, three thousand orphans were sent to Inner Mongolia.

Su Ningna was an overworked corporate drone who had died on the job. When she woke up, she found herself a three-year-old girl standing at a railway station, about to leave for Inner Mongolia.

She was adopted by a couple in Inner Mongolia and became their child, beginning a new life on the grasslands.

Her new parents were wonderful people. They had three children, who treated her like a younger sister. In their home, she experienced the kind of love and pampering she'd never known before.

On the vast, boundless grasslands, she rode fine horses, herded cattle and sheep, raised and trained falcons, outmaneuvered wolf packs, gathered wild greens, had snowball fights, and stocked up on winter provisions with her older siblings and the children from nearby. She spent a happy childhood.

Then an accident made her watch a childhood playmate contract the plague and die without being taken to the hospital in time.

People on the grasslands also suffered injuries and illnesses, but because of the region's special geography and poor transportation, they often couldn't get proper treatment.

Su Ningna resolved to become a doctor, a traveling physician on the grasslands, journeying among the herders to save lives and heal the injured. She would put down roots there, live up to the care her parents had given her and the support she had received from her country and the grasslands, and become a source of hope for the people who lived there.

Note: The characters in this story are not based on any real people, and all locations are fictional. The story merely references the event in which three thousand orphans were sent to Inner Mongolia. It is unrelated to the real event, so please read with that in mind.
