Taming Wildfire

On her boyfriend Gu Yanzhi's birthday, Tang Ran carefully prepared a surprise, only to see Gu Yanzhi kissing her stepsister in the pouring rain.

The rain came down in sheets, and hatred burned in Tang Ran's chest.

Just then, Tang Ran spotted Gu Yanzhi's half-brother, Gu Yunzhi.

Gu Yunzhi sat on the steps, soaked through, his black hair clinging messily to his forehead. Droplets ran down his jaw. He looked fragile yet stubborn.

Tang Ran remembered the disdain in her boyfriend's voice whenever he mentioned Gu Yunzhi: His mom's a sickly woman, and he's a pathetic loser so poor he can't even pay his tuition.

She narrowed her eyes and walked toward Gu Yunzhi in her high heels.

A black umbrella opened above the boy, shielding him from the rain.

"I hear you're short on money. How about a deal?" Tang Ran's lips curled coldly. "I'll pay to support you. When you make something of yourself, you'll help me bring down Gu Yanzhi's company."

Gu Yunzhi abruptly raised his head. After a long silence, a sharp glint appeared in his dark eyes.

Gu Yunzhi loathed everyone connected to the Gu family.

Yet at his most wretched moment, he met his brother's girlfriend, Tang Ran, the spoiled heiress.

"Remember," Tang Ran's red lips looked especially vivid against the curtain of rain, "I'm not helping you out of charity. This is an investment."

Tang Ran's "investment" kept coming.

At first, it was just Gu Yunzhi's tuition and his mother's medical bills. Later, Tang Ran remembered everything: the books he mentioned in passing, the medicine he took when he was sick, even the foods he had to avoid because of his unusual constitution.

Little by little, warmth returned to Gu Yunzhi's heart.

On another rainy day, Gu Yunzhi saw Tang Ran come in carrying a food container for him.

He walked over and kissed her eyes, his desire to possess her burning hot.

Tang Ran raised her hand to slap him, but Gu Yunzhi caught her wrist and pulled her into his arms. His gaze churned with dark emotion.

"I owe you too much to ever repay you in this lifetime."

"How about I give myself to you instead?"

"Tang Ran thought she'd picked up a stray puppy in the rain. Only later did she realize

he was the wildfire that would burn away half a lifetime of winter in her heart and bring her a whole spring."
