I'm a Cat, and I Raised a Human

Synopsis

Ying Zhen had lived for eighteen years, and had only ever heard other animals in the mountains talk about taking assassination contracts. He never imagined that one day he would receive a kill order himself. Looking at the meat and the scent-marked clothes in front of him, he solemnly nodded to the visitor, accepting the job.

Meow!

He was a cat with an assassination contract of his own now!

For his first job, he tried every trick he could think of to find his target. Just as he swung his claws toward the man's throat, their eyes met without warning. Meow, nobody had told him the target would be this handsome when he accepted the job.

"Mrow, "

Would you like to be mine?

I won't kill you, meow.

I'll give all that meat back, too.

As for the promise he made earlier, well, what could he do? Cats were free, and cats knew how to improvise.

Mrow, human, I'll take care of you.

Xu Linxiao was the crown prince, but after completing the flood-control works, he was ambushed and pursued, left at death's door.

The disaster had only just been brought under control. The refugees still hadn't been properly settled, the border troops hadn't received their provisions, and the Imperial Preceptor had predicted a severe blizzard this year. One problem after another remained unsolved. He didn't want to die.

He prayed to Heaven to grant him another ten years. He was willing to pay any price, so long as it did not harm the realm or its people.

But Heaven did not hear his prayer. What arrived was not reinforcements, but an assassin.

"Mrow, I'm here to kill you."

Xu Linxiao coughed up blood. He had even encountered a demon, so it seemed his time had come.

The assassin was remarkably skilled. His guards couldn't stop them.

Just as the claws were about to reach his throat, he heard the other say:

"Mrow, human, you're so handsome. Would you let me take care of you? I'll be your master, meow."

-

Xu Linxiao was saved, though the price was not what he had expected.

It wasn't gold or silver, power or status, a quest for immortality, or even his life. It was simply himself.

★ A short story. I thought it was too cute and couldn't resist writing it.
