My Love Rival Starts by Saying They Adore Me

Synopsis

(The blurb is in first person; the main story is in third person.)

I have a love rival. I think he's poor and a poser; he thinks I'm all looks and no substance. We can't stand each other.

At the height of our mutual hatred, I kicked my love rival into a nest of demonic beasts, and he knocked me out and sank me in a lake...

We stopped at nothing to kill each other.

But since the junior sister we both liked wanted us to be friends, we kept up a friendly facade.

"I heard the genius Jiang slew thirty-two demonic beasts all by himself last night. What a feat!"

"Nothing compared to you secretly training at the bottom of the lake all winter without telling the sect. Truly impressive."

Every day, the moment we opened our eyes, we were at each other's throats.

At first, I just wanted to beat him in front of our junior sister. Later, winning her affection seemed to become just another part of our rivalry.

At the Immortal Sect Tournament, my love rival made it all the way to the finals, battered and bruised, with that rusty old sword of his. Just one step away from the championship, his sword broke.

Amid the crowd's sighs and sympathetic gazes, my love rival remained impassive, kneeling to pick up, piece by piece, the sword that had been with him for years.

I felt a little unsettled, but then I saw the tears welling in our junior sister's eyes, and my heart instantly turned to stone.

Damn it, why hadn't I held out a little longer just now!

Despite losing his sword, my love rival held on until the final incense stick burned out, earning the sympathy of countless female cultivators. Our junior sister was one of them.

Watching her and my love rival grow closer, I couldn't sit still.

While he was in seclusion, I spread rumors everywhere, stole his jade slip, and bragged all over the spiritual network that he already had a Dao companion.

When our junior sister heard the news, she immediately sent her congratulations.

I thought victory was all but assured. But amid the gossip, my love rival came straight up to me with a cold expression and grabbed my hand.

"This is my Dao companion."

He dragged me down with him.
