Mr. Hugo's 101 Endings

[This story is very short, only tens of thousands of words. It came from a sudden burst of inspiration, so if anything differs from the original setting, please consider it my own addition.]

As a fan who loves tragic endings, He Jichu's favorite pastime is collecting all sorts of details about her idol's behavior.

Then she writes him to his death in her stories.

Sometimes he dies while escaping the Public Security Bureau's pursuit; sometimes he falls into a void and vanishes without a trace. Even when she gives him the most ordinary death of old age, she makes it utterly tragic.

Readers who love Hugo sob in the comments, but that only makes He Jichu more excited.

Until one day, the real Hugo appears right in front of her.

The tall man gives her a kind smile, but to He Jichu it looks like the slow descent of the Grim Reaper's scythe.

"Miss He Jichu, are you the one writing a hundred ways for me to die?"

He Jichu's vision goes black. She can no longer see a future for herself.

It's over!

Hugo thinks Vivian has been acting strangely lately.

She keeps staring at him with a complicated look in her eyes, and sometimes she even bursts into tears for no reason.

Worried that something is about to happen to him, Hugo drops hints for a long time and even follows Vivian, until he finally learns why she's acting so oddly.

Vivian has made friends with one of his fans and read a lot of the fan's stories, which don't exactly have happy endings.

Unable to resist his curiosity, Hugo tracks down the fanfiction. As he reads, he gradually becomes curious about the author behind the words.

So he shows up in front of her.

Much later, the two of them lean together on a rooftop, wearing matching rings and chatting in the evening breeze.

"Are you still going to kill me off in your stories?"

"...Probably not. After all, the last possible ending for the story has already happened."
