The Journey Is Never Easy

As one of the few people in the tavern who didn't worship Aha, Deng Miao had always done as she pleased, following her own whims.

A fugitive turning himself in after being frightened by his own shadow, a philanthropist breaking down in tears and publicly confessing his sins at a podium... These seemingly unrelated people in the news all had Deng Miao's secret influence behind them.

There were just times when Deng Miao was drawn to the fire and stepped out from behind the scenes.

Such as when she met Aventurine on Penacony.

Even though their few encounters hadn't exactly been pleasant memories, whether she was being drowned in memoria or hit in the head by a screaming doll, Deng Miao couldn't help becoming curious about him.

After the Penacony incident was over, she sought out a friend and asked them to look into Aventurine's upcoming itinerary.

Her friend gave her a teasing look, but Deng Miao seemed to be enjoying herself.

If a journey is too smooth, where's the fun in it?

Aventurine had always thought Deng Miao's purpose was to bring more surprises to his journey.

In a casino, she casually swept aside a table's worth of chips, enough to secure an ordinary person's future, then boldly grabbed his tie and declared in front of everyone, "I want you."

On Chaohua, she proclaimed her love for him in front of a crowd, then turned around and acted as if none of it had happened, leaving him alone to face the public scrutiny.

Whether it was a pleasant surprise or a shock, Aventurine had never taken any of it seriously.

Not until the moment before the planet's destruction, when he stood still and watched Deng Miao walk toward him with unhurried steps, as if she were on her way to a ball. Only then did Aventurine realize.

This Masked Fool, who always hid her intentions behind a veil of flames, had put everything she had on the line from the very beginning.

A few things to know before reading:

3. Happy ending.

4. Honkai: Star Rail has a lot of plot, so there may be some original interpretations mixed in.

5. Set after the 2.3 main story. Please don't worry if anything conflicts with the original.
