Gentle, cool-headed simultaneous interpreter x steady, calculating man in power
1-
Wen Sining is going through the darkest moment of her life. She's been diagnosed with kidney stones, is about to be laid off, and her parents are urging her to return to her hometown and find someone to marry.
She buys some alcohol and sits by the river in the cold wind, where she meets Lu Xianchuan, the general manager at her company: steady, distinguished, and aloof.
A layer of white mist hangs over the river. Wen Sining's head is spinning. "Mr. Lu, do you need a wife?"
Lu Xianchuan lifts his chin slightly. "If it's you, I could consider it."
On their wedding night, Wen Sining heads to the second bedroom to sleep, but Lu Xianchuan stops her. His voice low, he says, "I have no intention of entering a marriage in name only."
After the wedding, they treat each other with courteous respect and never cross any lines, seemingly confirming the rumors at the company:
Lu Xianchuan isn't interested in women, which is why he's still single.
When his friends hear that Lu Xianchuan is married, none of them believe it. Everyone knows he would never bow to marriage.
One of them asks curiously, "Mr. Lu, have you finally fallen for someone?"
Lu Xianchuan answers calmly, "No."
Just as expected. He doesn't care at all.

But as time goes on, his friends find it harder and harder to see him. One finally manages to arrange a meeting. "I heard you're getting divorced next month."
Lu Xianchuan's expression darkens. He taps his fingers lightly on the table. "Don't believe or spread rumors. It's time for my curfew. I'm going home to coax my wife."
Everyone else: "Whose curfew is at eight in the evening?"
When a friend hears that Wen Sining got married on a whim, they ask her what being married is like. "It's all right."
A rule-following girl since childhood, she's tried all sorts of new things since getting married.
When she says she's never been to a bar and wants to see one, he takes her.
When she says she wants to try bungee jumping, he jumps with her even though he's afraid of heights.
When she says she wants seafood congee in the middle of the night, he drives her there.
There's just one thing she doesn't like. They agreed on twice a week, but now it's three times a day, and Lu Xianchuan has all kinds of tricks. So much for not being interested in women.
For instance, she buys him a tie, and he ends up tying it around her wrists.
Or when she wants to thank him, he raises his dark eyes. "Want to thank me? Then you're on top tonight."
Unfortunately, Lu Xianchuan overhears Wen Sining saying, "It's all right."
That night, beneath the soft moonlight, Lu Xianchuan takes Wen Sining on a tour of the sofa, the walk-in closet, and the floor-to-ceiling windows.
He kisses her neck. "Wife, spreading rumors is bad."
Little extra
A friend wonders who managed to win Lu Xianchuan over and makes a surprise visit to his home, only to be stopped by him. "Get lost. My wife is shy around strangers."
A gentle woman's voice comes from inside. "Honey, who is it?"
Lu Xianchuan: "The gas meter reader."
Friend: "We're through!!!"
