He Only Likes My Cat

He only likes my cat

Jiang Nian is handsome, highly educated, and a high school teacher. On his twenty-fifth birthday, his ex-boyfriend took him to the entrance of the police station.

Lian Yue reminded him coldly, "If I go in and file a report, you'll lose your job too. Are you still not going to tell the truth?"

Adults should know when to bend, so Jiang Nian had no choice but to admit it. "...All right, sorry. I came here to, uh, steal something."

Lian Yue turned around and stared at him. "Steal what?"

Jiang Nian: "...A cat."

Lian Yue: "..."

Jiang Nian: "You don't even remember to buy the cat food! Even divorced parents have to pay child support!"

Lian Yue: "..."

The night Lian Yue asked Jiang Nian to start dating, Jiang Nian was sitting on his sofa, watching the cat do a backflip. Before Lian Yue could finish listing reasons like "you have a respectable job and a good education," Jiang Nian agreed. "Okay, let's be together."

When Jiang Nian asked to break up, he gently covered the cat's ears with his hand. Sitting across from him, Lian Yue looked from the cat to Jiang Nian. He held back for a long time before asking whether they could avoid breaking up if they got another cat.

An unrealistic second-chance romance, featuring a high school teacher bottom whose mind often drifts into outer space and whose heart is tough, and a dentist top who's deeply starved for love and stubborn to the core.

Both are each other's first and only partners. A second-chance romance, with a five-year age gap and a cat or two. Still another short story written to satisfy the author's own tastes.
