The Ruthless Daoist Fiancé Wants to Kill His Dao-Certified Wife

This story shares the same world as the neighboring novel, My Senior Brother Invited Me to Ascend, but I Want to Go to the Countryside and Help with the Farming. They take place during the same dynasty.

Li Lingwen has a childhood sweetheart she was promised to as a child. At fourteen, he entered the immortal sect to cultivate. With the immortal realm and the mortal world far apart, the two have kept in touch through letters.

Six years later, at twenty, she is selected to be a female official in the Ministry of Works. As a new junior workhorse, she surveys sites, conducts research, draws plans, designs, builds models, and runs construction sites. Every day is a blur of work.

Her superior says, "Xiao Li, don't be fooled by how little the Ministry of Works pays for so much work. When it comes to design, what matters is passion!"

Li Lingwen: "Sure."

What passion is there to speak of? As a child, she dreamed of building countless grand homes for ordinary people. As an adult, she builds lavish palaces for the imperial nobility instead. Every brick and tile is taken from the people, but none of it is used for them. The clash between her ideals and reality weighs heavily on her.

Her workhorse life is so busy that, after being beaten down by society, she often forgets to write back to her fiance.

So one day, he descends from the immortal realm and comes to see her in person.

Her fiance says, "You never write back. I was afraid you'd fallen for someone else down here. To avoid any more delays, let's get married this year."

Her fiance adds, "By the way, I wrote that I've cultivated the Path of Emotionlessness. Do you mind?"

Li Lingwen: "Huh? You cultivated the Path of Emotionlessness, and now you're here to marry me? You're not planning to kill your wife to prove your Dao, are you? Don't mess with me..."

Her fiance smiles and says, "It's fine. The emotionlessness our sect cultivates cuts off the great love for all living beings. We can still have romantic feelings for each other."

Li Lingwen: "...Isn't that even more terrifying?!"
