A thousand years ago, the peerless Sang Wan wielded a long sword and swept across the entire cultivation world. Everyone under heaven knew her name.
A thousand years later, with all her cultivation gone and her memories lost, Sang Wan wandered the mortal world alone.
Her only companion was a rusty, broken piece of scrap metal.
She remembered having a sword spirit, but had forgotten his face and name.
She had a vague sense that she owed him something, so she exhausted herself repairing his sword body. Yet when the sword spirit finally awoke, all he said was, "You're not worthy to form a bond with me."
So, when the trial realm opened, Sang Wan watched helplessly as the sword spirit Xi Lu rushed without hesitation to the senior sister with the greatest talent for swordsmanship, eager to form a bond with her.
Heartbroken, Sang Wan was about to be swallowed by a demonic nightmare when she drew a sword that had been buried for a thousand years to save herself.
From then on, she had a sword spirit at her side who wouldn't leave.

When sword spirit Xi Lu learned that Sang Wan had once been a peerless sword cultivator renowned throughout the world, he was consumed with regret.
Fortunately, Sang Wan was still devoted to him, so there was a chance to make things right.
Who could have guessed that an unknown sword spirit would shield Sang Wan and say arrogantly:
"So he's the one who wronged you?"
The sword spirit, dressed in black and radiating murderous intent, glared at Xi Lu, who was covered in spirit stones, his teeth clenched with hatred. He slowly pointed his sword at him. "How about I hack him back into a piece of scrap metal and toss him around for fun?"
-
Sword spirit Chang Li had always been proud, unruly, and haughty, never bowing his head to anyone or anything. He submitted only to his sword master, Sang Wan, and never complained, even when she abandoned him again and again.
Back then, she had forged his body from the finest spirit stones, hung a tassel she had made herself from him, and wielded his hilt to slay demons and vanquish monsters. She had wiped the blood from him.
So, when she once again abandoned him for reasons beyond her control, Chang Li defied the constraints of their sword pact. He transformed himself into a sword and guarded her side, standing against everyone.
Reading guide:
1. Expanded from a short story I wrote earlier. The male lead is Chang Li from beginning to end; Xi Lu was an unexpected development.
2. The heroine is very weak at first. This is not a story about a powerful heroine.
3. Both leads are each other's first and only partners. Happy ending.
4. Synopsis saved on April 23, 2025, and revised on March 9, 2026.
Theme: Finding yourself again
