A short, sweet story, pure fluff. Free while serialized, but it will probably be added to the monthly subscription package later.
In eighth grade, Nan Qiao had a bout of chuunibyou and, driven by a sudden sense of justice, got into a fight. He came away with a concussion and amnesia, and from then on became so oblivious that his friends practically wanted to beat some sense into him.
He made it all the way to his sophomore year of high school. Then, after a class-placement exam, he got a new desk mate.
His desk mate was handsome and kind, but seemed a little dim.
During class, Nan Qiao accidentally brushed his desk mate's arm. His desk mate's ears instantly turned bright red, and he stammered that Nan Qiao should tone it down.
When Nan Qiao's contact lenses felt uncomfortable and he blinked rapidly, his desk mate stopped him and, after a long pause, managed to say, "I understand now."
Nan Qiao: "???"
Then one day, he jokingly asked his desk mate if he had a crush on him.
His desk mate looked horrified, gave him a deeply aggrieved look, and accused him: "Weren't we already dating?"
Nan Qiao: (??*??????)??
Did we date in a dream or something?!
When Nan Qiao expressed his disbelief, his desk mate quietly took out the birthday present he'd given him and explained that it had been a confession, and Nan Qiao had said yes.
Nan Qiao stared at the elegant painting and fell silent.
An illiterate fool hadn't understood it, and now he was paying the price for his lack of education.
There were mountains and rivers in the painting. He'd thought his desk mate was wishing him a life as long as the Eastern Sea and a lifespan as long as the Southern Mountains. So it was a love confession? Well, that made sense.
One day, Nan Qiao found his desk mate's diary. It was a thick book, packed with records of Nan Qiao's everyday life.
[On such-and-such a date, I asked Nan Qiao to meet me at a cafe. I wanted to give him a present, but he didn't come.
He must not like coffee. Next time, I'll try a bubble tea shop.]
[On such-and-such a date, I ran into Nan Qiao. He saw me too, but didn't say hello.
My appearance must have changed so much over the past two years that he didn't recognize me. Next time, he'll definitely recognize me.]
[On such-and-such a date, I talked to Nan Qiao in the auditorium, but he asked me what my name was…
It's all right, it's all right. My name must be hard to remember. He'll definitely remember it next time.]
Nan Qiao: "…"
How do I tell my desk mate that I've lost my memory? Asking for help, online.
The top's point of view:
Xie Weiqing had been the perfect child since he was little. His family was harmonious, his parents were loving, and he had ranked first in every grade since starting school. He was the top student in his classmates' eyes and a well-behaved kid in the eyes of parents.
But no one knew that, despite holding all those honors and trophies, his heart was a barren wasteland.
A psychologist became an important part of his life.
Until one night, someone showed up holding a model, muttering that he couldn't find a piece, and stumbled upon Xie Weiqing in the dark.
From then on, the notebook where he recorded his daily activities became a diary about that person.
But an accident tore him away from that person.
Then, on the first day of sophomore year, he got a new desk mate named Nan Qiao.
Everyone thought he was destined to stand at the center of everyone's attention, but they didn't know his gaze had long been fixed on one person.
From their first meeting in seventh grade to now, with that person sitting beside him and smiling as he introduced himself.
"I'm Nan Qiao. From now on, we're desk mates, so don't be shy. I'm easy to get along with."
"This is my first time talking to Xie, the top student. Do you think I'll score a couple more points on this month's exam?"
This wasn't the first time. Xie Weiqing knew that, but Nan Qiao didn't.
At Nanching University, the Mathematics and Finance departments had a sudden brainstorm and organized a friendly debate. The topic was: "Does a story's ending matter?"
Students from both departments exchanged glances, fully embracing their inner spectators as they settled in to enjoy the show.
That day, under the spotlights and countless watching eyes, the affirmative and negative teams took the stage to thunderous applause.
A friendly exchange before the competition was essential. The host read from the script to warm up the crowd. At the center of everyone's attention, a slender, fair-skinned hand reached out.
"I'm Nan Qiao, first speaker for the affirmative team. I look forward to debating with you."
A tiny red mole on his pinky stood out. Nan Qiao's eyes curved into a smile as his light-colored gaze met the calm, cool eyes of the person before him.
The other person brushed a finger over the red mole. The corner of his mouth lifted, and a hint of a smile melted away all his distance. His voice was gentle.
"Xie Weiqing, first speaker for the negative team."
"I look forward to debating with you."
*A somewhat straightforward, forgetful, and wildly unpredictable bottom × a top who reads too much into things, has a girlish heart, and sulks and draws circles whenever something happens (At thirteen, he had the makings of a crazy, possessive yandere top, but the passing years took away his big, doll-like eyes and his chance to become a yandere, while also turning him into an especially girlish top.)
*It's fictional, it's fictional. Just for fun.
*First-person narration. Don't read if that's not your thing.
*The timeline covers middle school, high school, and university, but most of the story takes place in high school.
*Short story, not long. No logic, pure fluff. Starts May 20.
*The debate is purely for entertainment, nothing official. Just have fun.
