Memoirs of a Dead Friend

[Getting back into writing and finding my rhythm. Just writing for fun.]

Lian Qing had lain in her coffin for a hundred years. One day, someone dug her up, and she discovered that all her memories were gone, along with three sections of her spirit bone and half her spirit core.

The passersby she met told her that she was the world's savior, that everyone revered and loved her, and that even the most powerful people of the age would do anything she asked.

Lian Qing: Beware of scams. It's everyone's responsibility.

It wasn't until the calamity broke out and someone died before her eyes that she remembered.

She really had saved the world.

Only, she hadn't been the only one to save it.

Her close friends, who had stolen drumsticks from her countless times and loudly proclaimed, "What does saving the world have to do with people like us? If the sky falls, let the tall ones hold it up. We just need to live in the moment," had long since died nameless in the world-ending catastrophe a hundred years ago.

"The savior died nameless, the transmigrator died far from home, the seeker waited all their life, the healer was sliced apart, the coward died for righteousness, the selfish died in an act of sacrifice, and the one who cherished freedom fell forever into the abyss."

"The person most afraid of parting is always the one who has to face it."

"But Lian Qing, you have to live to a ripe old age."

Not a female-led power fantasy, not a strong heroine, not an everybody-loves-you story, and not a wish-fulfillment novel. Slow burn, written all over the place.

There are flashbacks and angst.
