Legend has it that there was once an Emanator of Abundance, born on a planet that worshipped Nanook, the Aeon of Destruction.
She was the eldest daughter of a great noble family. She and her twin brother were chosen to become the next Holy Maiden and the one who would receive the Sovereign's blessing at the next ceremony.
The teacher sent by the Church to instruct them said this was the highest honor.
“I don't understand.”
I couldn't understand.
Just because something had always been done that way, did that make it right?
The first time she questioned it and sought an answer, the girl, still too young to understand the rules of the adult world, was locked away.
Three whole days later, dizzy and bleary-eyed, the girl sobbed that she was wrong and begged the exalted Sovereign to punish her. Only then did the door to the cell finally open. She breathed the fresh air outside again and heard her family, heartsick with worry for her, scold her.
After that, the young chosen one stopped asking questions. She was quiet when she was taken into the Church, too, but no one could deny the sincerity with which she prayed to the Sovereign for the gift of golden blood.
Only the alchemist, who kept an eye on the Holy Maiden's daily life while conducting his research, smiled enigmatically from the shadows.
Day after day, the Holy Maiden repeated the same dull routine without complaint, but the Pope grew increasingly dissatisfied, and rumors spread through the streets.
In the end, disaster came before the Sovereign's blessing.
The Holy Maiden, hurriedly shoved into the laboratory by the alchemist, ignored his warning to “stay hidden and don't come out” and left the unusually quiet Papal Palace.
Rubble lay everywhere. The dead were everywhere, along with unidentifiable creatures crushed into pulp.
She crept through the ruins and finally made it home, only to find her family had already stopped breathing.
Resentment rose in her heart.
I want to save them. No one should have to die.
But this is something the Sovereign cannot give me.
Her plea at the moment of death drew the gaze of another god. A green seed fell, returning her to the mortal world and granting her a long life.
For the sake of the god who had saved her, she listened and answered, striving to bring good news to more people.
But as her horizons widened, she realized that sometimes “Abundance” was more like “Destruction” than “Destruction” itself.
“So she turned her gun on them, became a traitor in the eyes of others, and vowed to purge the vermin for her patron!”
“Stop!” Stella glared at the two-dimensional blur of a teacher, who was outlining the next historical comic and getting more and more fired up for no apparent reason. “What are you even talking about? At this rate, your comic is definitely going to get canceled again.”
Who in Dual-Phase Paradise would want to read this stuff?
The Undying Detective, resting with his head in his lover's lap, was just as unimpressed. “I agree. This is way too over the top.”
“Uh... Do you have any suggestions for revisions, protagonist of the story?” Xu Zhao rolled the sheet of paper in his hand into a tube and held it to Stella's mouth as if it were a microphone.
Stella looked down and met the gaze of the Undying Path. The words slipped out before she could stop them.
“Why don't you stick to drawing your Aeon histories!”
