Marrying Up

I won't be writing this novel for the time being.

Blurb

Chu Wenjun was the eldest daughter of a salt merchant in Yangzhou. Though her family was not especially wealthy when she was young, she lived a stable life.

Unfortunately, the year she came of age, her family became embroiled in a corruption case. She had no choice but to say goodbye to her childhood sweetheart, take an old keepsake, and travel north to knock on the doors of the Duke Who Guards the Nation's residence.

The duke honored his old promise, and Chu Wenjun married his younger son, Xu Ye, as she had hoped, saving her family's lives.

Xu Ye had sharp brows and bright eyes, and was handsome and valiant. Though still young, he had already earned distinction in battle.

Chu Wenjun thought that, all things considered, he was a good match.

Yet on their wedding night, Xu Ye left the residence in the middle of the night. Chu Wenjun stayed beside the dragon-and-phoenix wedding candles as they burned down, not daring to utter a single word of protest.

After the wedding, Chu Wenjun honored her parents-in-law and cared for her younger brother-in-law. No one could find the slightest fault with her.

Xu Ye was busy with military affairs and felt little for the wife who had sought him out, but he appreciated how she managed the family's estates and household.

He thought that spending the rest of his life with her like this might not be so bad.

Until one day, he saw a letter on his wife's desk. It read:

"The eastern window is still dark, with the waning moon overhead."

The handwriting was unmistakably that of his younger brother.

1. A heart like a web of twin threads, tied with a thousand knots. Night has passed, yet the eastern window is still dark, with the waning moon overhead.

2. All male characters are virgins.
