- Sweet, obedient girl x scheming general
- Marriage first, love later | Past and present lives | Wolf-and-rabbit romance | 1v1 sweet romance
Before her wedding, Wen Zhiheng had a nightmare.
In her dream, she was offered to the powerful Marquis of Huai'an. The moment she entered his residence, she saw him cutting down a relative with his sword.
The sight of a head rolling across the ground terrified her. After that, she took to her bed, sick with grief, and died.
When she awoke, drenched in cold sweat, she found the courage to say that she would marry the young general, Meng Xun, at once.
Everyone said Meng Xun had been poisoned by a strange toxin, was unpredictable, and was extremely difficult to get along with.
But she remembered how he had ridden through a storm to save her life several years earlier.
She knew he was a good person.
After they married, Meng Xun treated her well in every way, from food to clothing and daily necessities. As time passed, his health gradually improved, and he grew more and more affectionate toward her.
Later, when others criticized him as calculating and ruthless,
she rose on tiptoe and brushed his expressionless face, gently comforting him. "Husband, don't listen to their nonsense."
Meng Xun discreetly wiped the blood left in his palm after killing someone, then reached up to stroke her head, his smile hard to read. "Then what should I listen to?"
"The truth from me." A faint blush spread over her ears as she spoke slowly. "My husband is honest with others and kind by nature."
Until one night, after they had been intimate, Wen Zhiheng dreamed that the Marquis of Huai'an, having slaughtered his relatives, turned around.
The man's long brows swept toward his temples, his nose was high-bridged, and a small mole sat at the end of his brow.
It was unmistakably Meng Xun's face.
Terrified, she used praying for blessings as an excuse to hide at Xingshan Temple.
But that day, dark clouds filled the sky and a storm was brewing. When she hurried back to her meditation room, she saw Meng Xun standing by the door, though he was supposed to be in the palace attending a meeting.
He strode up to her and gripped her wrist tightly, his burning gaze fixed on her fingertips, no longer peaceful and indifferent as he had once been.
Meeting his dark eyes, Wen Zhiheng felt as if she were looking into the same sinister depths as in her nightmare.
...Did he want to kill her?
But Meng Xun's voice was exceptionally gentle:
"Ah Heng, come home with me."
Reader's guide and content notes:
1. Past and present lives, with both characters choosing each other in both lifetimes. The romance is a writing exercise, a sweet slice-of-life story, not a forced relationship.
2. My take on wolf-and-rabbit romance. SC, 1v1, each other's first love, and the protagonists are both devoted to one another in body and heart.
Please note that the heroine is soft and timid, and not very clever. She has a character arc, but her nature and core personality won't change. If this isn't your thing, please scold the author instead of Ah Heng, haha.
The male lead seems innocent but is actually scheming, and isn't a purely good person.
3. An unconventional story about both characters being reborn.
The heroine has a precognitive dream, and at first she doesn't see the male lead's face. Her dreams come in fragments, so there is an information gap. Everything from her past life, including her death, was completely different from what she believes. She didn't die of fright, nor was she killed by the male lead. The two of them loved each other deeply in their past life as well.
The male lead will also gradually dream of his past life.
4. They are 16 and 22 from the start, with a six-year age gap.
5. This is my own fictional setting, so please don't nitpick the historical details.
Theme: If we were not fated to meet in a past life, may we be granted the wish to be together in the next.
