After Mo Xuanjing was betrayed by her close female friend and her live-in husband, she died full of resentment, which transformed her into a jiangshi.

A century later, in the modern era, she has just awakened when instinct drives her to bite Sui Shiying, passing the corpse poison on to him.

If the poison isn't cured, it will seep into his bones, and when the next full moon comes, Sui Shiying will become a jiangshi.

2.

At first, Sui Shiying mistakes the corpse poison's effects for an ordinary inflammation and thinks little of it after seeing a doctor. But the poison flares up again, and his symptoms worsen.

Only by holding Mo Xuanjing's hand can he just barely calm the heat coursing through his body.

He thinks that's all it will take to end this.

But he never imagined the corpse poison would return with a vengeance just a few days later.

This time, an embrace is needed to ease it.

Mo Xuanjing, meanwhile, hates him. The betrayal she suffered in life has left her despising everyone.

Until a Maoshan Taoist comes to their door of his own accord:

"If the corpse poison isn't completely removed, it will keep mutating. To stay alive, you need to balance the yin and yang energies inside the jiangshi's body."

Sui Shiying doesn't understand.

The Taoist explains in simpler terms, exasperated: "That means a little kiss. If a kiss doesn't work, then... There's one last option: fall in love."
