The Young Lord's Inn

After her uncle passed away, Shurui’s aunt arranged a marriage for him: He was to become the second wife of Wu, a wealthy gentleman over forty who lived in town. Shurui refused. That night, he packed his luggage and took the deed to the shop his parents had left him. He planned to head to the prefectural city and find a way to make a living. While fleeing the marriage, Shurui got into trouble on the road and hit a handsome young man with his carriage. The handsome young man opened his eyes and said his head hurt. He couldn’t remember anything. He had amnesia! Shurui didn’t believe a word of it. With his face smeared in black makeup and fake pockmarks, he wailed at the man in a nauseatingly pitiful voice: “Husband, have you forgotten me too? We’re a loving married couple!” The handsome young man stared at him in silence for a long time. He truly couldn’t remember ever having a husband like this. Still, he accepted it readily, figuring that having a husband was better than having none. “But I’m hungry. I want to eat.” “...” The old shop on Ten-Mile Street had been closed for years, and dust lay thicker than the roof tiles. Slowly, it was repaired and restored. A new sign was hung above the door. It was now an inn. The inn was small, with four private rooms and one communal sleeping room. It wasn’t very spacious, but guests could stay the night or stop by for a meal. The two young people who ran the place were one young man and one ger. The ger was the shopkeeper, and also the cook. The handsome waiter looked a little dopey, but he was good with his hands. Today’s menu included silver carp stewed with sour bamboo shoots, shepherd’s purse and egg pancakes, and bitter tea. The rooms were already full, so they weren’t taking any more guests... The days drifted by, and year after year the little inn endured through clear skies, wind, rain, and snow~ Reader’s Guide: An elementary-school-kid kind of romance A ger story, slice-of-life in the town Coming soon: “My Husband Holds a High Position” He Xu, who came from the apocalypse, transmigrated into an era where women and gers could also hold political office. He became a newlywed man forced to marry into a powerful family. His husband, Lin Qingyi, had eyes clear as rippling water and a cool, aloof bearing. He passed the civil service examination at sixteen and now served as the current dynasty’s Minister of Rites, a man of great power and influence! He Xu: Forced? Who said anything about being forced? The original owner had also been born into a family of high-ranking officials. Unfortunately, the family fell on hard times, and by his generation they were only minor officials of the seventh rank. Because his birth chart matched Lin Qingyi’s and he was good-looking, the Lin family chose him to marry into their household as a live-in son-in-law. The original owner had little talent, but was determined to pass the civil service exams and enter government, restoring the He family’s former glory. He felt humiliated about marrying into the Lin family, so he constantly butted heads with Lin Qingyi to show off his unyielding pride. Unexpectedly, he accidentally killed himself for real while pretending to hang himself~ He Xu: A lamentable tragedy, alas~ Brother, why couldn’t you bring yourself to live off your husband? Here, let me show you how it’s done! Recently, Lin Qingyi had begun to find the live-in son-in-law in his household rather strange. He no longer glared at him or avoided sharing a room with him. He even cooked four dishes and a soup himself, then chased after Lin Qingyi with a basin of foot-washing water, insisting on washing his feet! Lin Qingyi’s gaze was cool: “A principal husband’s status, but a concubine’s behavior.” He Xu gazed at him tenderly: “Even as a concubine, I’d be willing to marry Lord Lin~” [A cool and aloof husband, a husband of great power and influence] [When a free meal is right in front of you, why wouldn’t you take it?] Theme: Never give up, and there is always hope!
