There's Always Some Fool Calling Me a Spirit Beast

Qi Bao spent his entire fortune on a spirit beast egg. What hatched was a snake, and a particularly ugly one at that.

Qi Bao was so scared he started crying, but the snake cried even louder than he did.

Its whole body convulsed, writhing and twitching.

The snake cried itself unconscious.

When it woke up, its first words were despairing: "You have a pot, don't you? Hurry up and stew me."

Qi Bao asked, "If I stew you, can you turn into a spirit beast?"

"No. I want to be reincarnated."

Qi Bao: "..."

Mo Xuan, a civil servant in the underworld, was on vacation. But as soon as he set foot in the human realm, he somehow had the worst luck imaginable and fell into an egg.

A mere eggshell couldn't possibly hold him back...

The instant he hatched, Mo Xuan fell apart.

To make matters worse, there was a reckless human right beside him, patting his head. "Don't cry, don't cry. I don't even mind what you look like."

The human was so noisy, constantly shoving nutritionally worthless things at him. "Little Black, Little Black, can you turn into a spirit beast if you eat spirit stones?"

"Little Black, can you turn into a spirit beast if you drink spirit liquid?"

"Little Black, Little Black, here's a spirit fruit..."

"And here's a divine beast bone..."

One day, the human dragged his badly injured body inside, crawling in on the verge of death. "Little Black... They said if they eat me... they'll become an immortal... I don't want them to eat me... I'll let you eat me instead."

For the first time, Mo Xuan shielded the human with his own body, using the snake form he hated most to drive away the ill-intentioned humans.
