Bai Jiao is a famous “specialist in scumbag villains” at the Space-Time Administration. He never needs to act: just standing there makes him the perfect scumbag. After returning to work from the New Year holiday, he gets a message from his boss saying his mission went off the rails, so they'll need to launch a second repair and lower the protagonist's corruption level. Lowering the corruption level requires real love and tenderness. In traditional melodramatic novels, a scum gong has to go through an entire arc of pursuing his husband and suffering for it, making himself utterly broken and atoning for the love he won back with the miserable rest of his life. The mission is called “The Scum Gong's Confession.” His boss gives him a thousand warnings, terrified he'll quit. His friend has a purple sandalwood plaque carved with the character for “endure” custom-made for him. That's right, just put up with it and it'll all be over. Endure it, and you can achieve a happy ending where everyone makes dumplings together.
