After My Girlfriend Got Bored of Me, the Monster Changed Its Skin

{An expanded version of The Monster's Skin, currently on hiatus}

After a sudden, brutal breakup, Xu Yao went out drinking late at night.

"We were talking about the engagement party the night before, and the next day he told me he wanted to break up."

His firm stance left Xu Yao utterly confused and humiliated.

Her best friend said helplessly, "That damn scumbag. Don't cry over him. Finish your drink and I'll introduce you to a handsome guy tomorrow."

Xu Yao nodded through tear-blurred eyes.

The next day.

The handsome guy her friend promised had yet to show up. Xu Yao went outside to take out the trash and ran into Yan He, the younger brother of her ex-boyfriend, Yan Qing. The brothers had grown up relying on each other, with no parents. Xu Yao had seen him many times. He was a gentle, sweet-talking young man, and looked a lot like her ex.

He gazed at her quietly, his eyes tender and full of affection. Anxiety showed on a face that resembled her ex-boyfriend's.

Xu Yao hadn't wanted to pay him any attention.

Her ex-boyfriend's younger brother said softly, "Sister Xiao Yao, my brother cut off contact and went abroad."

He began to cry. "I only have you now."

Xu Yao looked at him, and he returned her gaze with tenderness.

She decided to get revenge on her ex by seducing his younger brother.

The Monster's Skin

One day, when there was no one else around, the ex-boyfriend from that sudden, brutal breakup confessed, "I'm a monster. A monster with several spare human bodies, but if I don't take meticulous care of them, they always break down.

The other monsters of my kind think I'm incredibly wasteful. Creating a human body takes a long time, and a normal one can be used for a hundred years.

But I often have to switch to a new one after only three or five years."

He stared silently at the skin in the mirror, at that young, gentle, handsome face.

Xu Yao called from outside the door, "Yan He!"

He answered softly and tenderly.

The door remained closed, so the monster continued his quiet confession: "I know my bodies break down far too often."

"But what can I do? My girlfriend is always looking for something new."

Before he discovered his girlfriend's tender gaze falling on his spare body, the one that was supposedly his younger brother, the monster had been full of hope, wanting to marry his girlfriend and build a home with her.

But he hadn't expected...

But it didn't matter. He was the ex-boyfriend, and he was the ex-boyfriend's younger brother, too.
