The Monster's Skin

After being abruptly dumped, Xu Yao goes out drinking late at night.

"We were talking about our engagement party the night before, and the next day he told me he wanted to break up."

His firm decision leaves Xu Yao confused and humiliated.

Her best friend sighs helplessly. "That scumbag. Don't cry over him. Finish your drink, and tomorrow I'll introduce you to a handsome guy."

Xu Yao nods through her tears.

The next day.

Before the handsome guy her friend promised has even shown up, Xu Yao steps outside to take out the trash and runs into Yan He, her ex-boyfriend's younger brother. The brothers have no parents and grew up relying on each other. Xu Yao has met him many times. He's a gentle, sweet-talking young man, and he looks a lot like her ex.

He watches her quietly, his gaze tender and affectionate. His face, so similar to her ex's, is filled with nervousness.

Xu Yao doesn't want to deal with him.

Her ex-boyfriend's younger brother says softly, "Sister Xiaoyao, my brother cut off contact and went abroad."

Tears fall from his eyes. "I only have you now."

Xu Yao looks at him, and he gazes back with tender affection.

She decides to get back at her ex by sleeping with his younger brother.

One day, when no one else is around, her ex-boyfriend, who abruptly dumped her, confesses, "I'm a monster. I have several spare human bodies, but if I don't carefully maintain them, they keep breaking down.

The other monsters think I'm terribly wasteful. It takes a long time to make a human body, and a normal one can last a hundred years.

But I usually have to replace mine after three or five years."

He stares silently at the skin in the mirror, at that young, gentle, handsome face.

Outside the door, Xu Yao calls, "Yan He!"

He answers softly and tenderly.

The door remains closed, so the monster continues his quiet confession. "Of course I know my bodies have an unusually high failure rate."

"But what can I do? My girlfriend gets tired of the old and wants something new."

Before he discovered his girlfriend's tender gaze on his spare body, the one that was officially his original body's younger brother, the monster had been full of hope, wanting to marry his girlfriend and start a family.

But he never expected...

It doesn't matter, though. He's the ex-boyfriend, and he's also the ex-boyfriend's younger brother.
