Everyone's Fighting to Survive, But I'm on the Monsters' Side

[The blurb and plot premise have been extensively revised]

After escaping from the research institute, Yu Qi did his best to hide his inhuman nature and spent some time living as a drifter.

He slept under bridges and in parks, until a survival game for all humanity arrived and transformed the world. Everyone started out with nothing but a shabby little wooden cabin.

Yu Qi was overjoyed. At last, he wouldn't have to live on the streets!

He approached his cabin.

[Warning! Monsters are not permitted inside!]

[Cabin Defense System report: A terrifying monster is attempting to break in. Please reinforce your shelter as soon as possible!]

Yu Qi: “...”

It was keeping him out!

[You must find shelter before nightfall.]

Then let him inside!

After the game invaded, animals and plants mutated, and the whole world became like a primeval jungle, filled with monster dens.

Players had to gather resources in the midst of danger.

Dusk settled in, and shadows stretched long. Spiderwebs hung between the trees as a gigantic spider dropped from above, its compound eyes settling on the handsome young man who had suddenly wandered into its territory.

Yu Qi rubbed his hands together, feeling a little embarrassed. “Bro, mind if I borrow your place to sleep?”

[Monster Affinity: 100]

The spider moved aside for him.

Yu Qi never imagined he would still have to live as a drifter, but a monster's lair counted as a home too. He claimed a monster den and, following the System's instructions, started upgrading his shelter.

When he went out to gather resources, he borrowed a place to stay in the dens of all kinds of good bros. When he had too much to do, he paid some good bros in meat to help out.

At last, he made it.

[Congratulations! You own an SSS-grade lair: Monster Broodmother's Nest]

At some point, a player climbed to the very top of the leaderboard.

His score was absurdly high.

Yet the level of his cabin remained at 1.

Other players marveled: He must be incredibly strong, going out to hunt every day.

Yu Qi: :(

He just hadn't been able to get into his cabin this whole time.

But he had experienced life in a luxurious cabin too.

Yu Qi stood at the entrance of a castle, holding two pounds of fruit from the depths of a secret realm.

The defense system activated automatically.

Then his human bro ignored the System's warning and let the monster into his home.

Yu Qi gave him a warm hug. “Bro, bro! You have to come visit my lair sometime!”

Pei Shanqing, the top human player, who everyone thought was a loner, accepted the fruit and smiled faintly.

Yu Qi rubbed his hands together again. “Could I ask you to come with me to the secret realm sometime? I'll give you the best food as payment.”

His companion replied, “I don't need payment.”

Yu Qi was shocked, and was just about to insist

Pei Shanqing: “Just call me hubby.”
