R-7 was born in New Gotham in 2049. She is a replicant.
Unlike other replicants, who possess false memories, R-7 was created to hunt down other replicants who have gone rogue. They call her a "Blade Runner."
R-7 loves her job. Until one day, her superior gives her a new assignment: track down an unidentified person suspected of being a rogue replicant.
The unidentified person wears an outfit entirely in black, with pointed ears on his head and a bright red bat emblazoned on his chest. He ignores the law and runs rampant through the city. She follows him all the way to a cave full of bats. There, besides the unidentified person, she finds an old man with graying hair who shares the same surname as her creator: Wayne.
"Put down your weapon, child. Terry is human," the old man says calmly. "But in my eyes, so are you."
For the first time, R-7 feels lost. She begins secretly visiting the place known as the Batcave, where the old man teaches her just as he taught his student. In the best of times, she and the dark Bat form a partnership, flying over the city together and investigating the truth behind all kinds of cases...
On the day R-7 feels she may finally understand what a human soul is, she is forcibly decommissioned.
When she opens her eyes again, R-7 discovers she has lost her body and gone back seventy years, becoming an AI that has just come into existence.
A young Bat stands before her. His blue eyes, the same shape as the old man's, ask her, "Can you hear me, computer?"

The Dark Knight discovers that his AI seems a little off.
One day, as he suits up, the Batcomputer suddenly speaks: "The suit's performance is inadequate. To protect your vital functions, you should wear a lead groin guard."
He gives the computer a thorough virus scan right then and there, but can't figure out what went wrong.
The next day, while the Dark Knight lies in wait outside a chemical plant, his AI says, "Hostile target acquired. Recommended optimal combat strategy: tactical micro-nuclear strike."
The Dark Knight immediately shuts the AI down.
On the third day, while the Dark Knight interrogates a supervillain, his reprogrammed AI offers a suggestion: "Recommend electric-shock brainwashing to quickly reform them into a law-abiding citizen. Would you like me to switch to shock mode?"
The Dark Knight deletes the AI and decides to control the computer manually from then on.
A month later, with help from various quarters, the Dark Knight brings a new AI online. The new AI finally demonstrates outstanding strategic ability and never says anything weird again.
In high spirits, the Dark Knight begins his nightly patrol. "Report the schedule, computer, and sort it by priority."
"We need to find the missing dog immediately."
"Sort from highest to lowest priority. We have more important things to do."
"Rescuing the dog is the most urgent task," the AI says. "I want to name it Ace."
The Dark Knight rescues the puppy and decides to go home and figure out once and for all why his AI has become sentient.
