[Three Kingdoms] A Rotten Corpse in the Grave, Let's Start Over

I transmigrated.

To the late Eastern Han dynasty.

No golden finger.

Yuan Lu thought things couldn't get any worse.

…Then he discovered he'd transmigrated into Yuan Shu, Yuan Gonglu, a man dismissed as "a dry bone in a tomb."

And the moment he opened his eyes, he realized he was about to declare himself emperor.

According to the course of history, over the next two years he'd face the nightmare of brazenly proclaiming himself emperor, his subordinates declaring independence, his allies turning against him, and enemies on every side, before dying a miserable death from illness like a stray dog.

Yuan Lu was despairing.

As he struggled to drag one foot back from the gates of hell, he also gloomily mused: If I'm already a dry bone in a tomb, I might as well die and start over!

The people of Jiangdong keenly sensed that their lord had changed.

When fine clothes and delicacies were presented to him, Yuan Lu said expressionlessly, "They're just worldly possessions. Take them away!"

When enemy troops surrounded the city and it seemed impossible to hold, Yuan Lu sneered, put on his helmet, and mounted his horse. "I fear no death. Follow me, gentlemen!"

When someone tried once again to read his wishes and urged him to accept the throne, Yuan Lu sighed toward the sky, drew his sword, and pretended to kill himself. "Do not lead me astray! I do not wish to be emperor. I only want to pacify this troubled world."

Although he kept slacking off in hopes of dying in a more dignified way, for some reason, strategists gradually gathered around Yuan Lu, fine generals followed him, and his reputation began to recover. He was hailed as "the one chosen by Heaven to restore order and correct the chaos."

…

By the time peace had been restored and Yuan Lu was being elevated to the throne, he finally realized, belatedly:

It seemed…he didn't need to start over after all?
