Back Before the Lottery Draw [The Nineties]

In 1997, as the nation celebrated Hong Kong's return with excitement and joy, Yu Qingqing's mother, who had secretly gone to Hong Kong to earn money, died from overwork on the job. Her eight-year-old brother ate all the cake samples at a bakery because he couldn't resist the treat, and the shopkeeper slapped him so hard he lost hearing in one ear. Her five-year-old sister also went missing while they were rushing to the hospital together.

And it was her birthday, too.

Faced with her brother's "enormous" medical bills and no relatives to turn to, she went back to school for help. Seeing the unmistakable looks of disdain in the eyes of her classmates and teacher, she traded away her dignity for five hundred yuan.

That day, with only ten yuan left to her name, she and her classmate Xu Li each bought a lottery ticket. When the results came out, Xu Li won 7.86 million yuan. From then on, Xu Li, who had also been on welfare, went on to live a wealthy life, married the most popular boy at their high school, and enjoyed a life of luxury utterly unlike hers.

She dropped out of school that same year to earn money, sent her brother to a special education school, and never stopped searching for her missing sister. At the most desperate point in her life, she couldn't even afford a sleeping mat.

After decades of hardship, she only learned after dying and leaving her body that her sister had been abducted by a deranged killer, brutally sliced apart with more than thirty cuts, and left in a sewer, dead with her eyes open. Her brother had also taken his own life with pesticide shortly after she died.

Her soul drifted in grief as the events of her life replayed again and again. Then she discovered a shocking truth: she had been the one to win the lottery back then, but her classmate Xu Li had secretly switched their tickets.

And the scumbag father from Hong Kong who had ignored their family was actually an influential figure there.

The donations that had repeatedly found their way into her hands had all come from the deskmate who was always scowling at her. He had even visited her after she died.

A flash of white light, and she was reborn, back in 1997. On this day, her brother was still unharmed, and her sister was still alive...
