Cheng Yanshen hurriedly opened the class group chat and scrolled up until he found a screenshot from the forum. The poster was An Luoran, and it contained just one line: "m together, don't spread nonsense."
"Fuck!" Cheng Yanshen spat a mouthful of mineral water a good distance away. This was way too outrageous. He was about to explode, so he hurriedly called An Luoran. He called four or five times, but no one picked up. Cheng Yanshen could guess that the "m" meant "not," but the gossip-loving spectators didn't care about that. In no time, a post titled "The PE Department's Hunk and the School Hunk Announce Their Relationship" was flooding the forum. There was no clearing his name now.
At exactly eight in the evening on November 10, Student Union president Cheng Yanshen was typing with one hand and yawning over his sports statistics textbook with the other. He'd typed fewer than ten characters when his roommate, who had just climbed out of bed, sprang up as if a firecracker had gone off under him. "Chengzi, Chengzi, our school forum's blown up!"
"Let it blow up. I'm busy."
"No, it's the post about you and our newly crowned school hunk dating!"
Cheng Yanshen looked at the tablet his roommate held up. It showed a blurry, dark photo. The campus heartthrob of Shenhai University was standing under a tree, while the other person in the shot was dressed in black and only had the back of his head showing. His face wasn't visible, but the two big characters "Cheng Yanshen" on the back of his hoodie made it pretty obvious who it was. That wasn't even the worst part. The angle of the photo, though a little blurry, made it look like the two of them were kissing.
"Who the hell started this rumor?" The Shenhai University forum was more lively than ever. Some people were wailing over their broken hearts, while others were busy shipping the pair, all exclaiming that An Luoran, the aloof campus heartthrob, had been won over by Cheng Yanshen. Not one person thought to ask the people involved whether the gossip was even true. This wasn't a misunderstanding anymore. It was pure fabrication.
Cheng Yanshen, a straight-as-an-arrow guy who'd been single for twenty years and got along with everyone like a buddy, had last held a girl's hand in kindergarten. Now, against all odds, he'd found himself a boyfriend before Christmas. Not only that, he'd been forced out of the closet in front of the entire school. What kind of nonsense was this?
Cheng Yanshen couldn't explain his way out of it, so he thought he'd get the other person who'd been forced out of the closet with him to clear things up together. But when he called, An Luoran actually said, "There's no need!"
Fine, fine. That wasn't the end of it. An Luoran eventually agreed to clarify things and posted a statement on the school forum. But he accidentally left out a character, turning a fake rumor into solid proof. There was no clearing their names now. And so a spectacular farce began. Two people who had nothing to do with each other were bound together by a fabricated photo. Cheng Yanshen and An Luoran were utterly incompatible, and whenever they crossed paths, something was bound to go wrong. Yet somehow, they kept running into each other.
