143 years after Blue Star was occupied.
Vina found an injured, filthy human stray by the side of the road.
She'd kept plenty of reptiles as pets, and couldn't bear to see a little creature looking so pitiful when hurt. So she reached out with her tentacles and carried the human home.
But she never expected humans to be so hard to care for.
Humans need more specialized food than most pets. They need a comfortable temperature, regular exercise, sunlight, and plenty of company...
Otherwise, they'll get an upset stomach and die, catch all kinds of diseases and die, or even become depressed and die because they're in a bad mood!
And the adult male human she'd picked up just wouldn't warm up to her!
Vina held a stack of popular books about human behavior and looked at the human in front of her, who was huddled in a corner with a wary expression, occasionally making noises she couldn't understand. She felt utterly helpless.
...No wonder he was abandoned.
After teaching herself to become an expert in human care, Vina finally won her human's acceptance. But before she could enjoy more than a few days of cuddling and kissing her beloved pet,
her pet ran away.
Ran away!
Distraught, Vina put up missing-pet notices all over town and asked everyone she met, "Have you seen my human? He's very well-behaved, with short black hair, and I've kept his coat glossy and sleek..."
Then, suddenly, war broke out.
A war of resistance, started by the humans.
Vina: Huh?
Come to think of it, her species was considered an invading force by the humans, wasn't it?
It's over. Vina was crushed.
No wonder her human had abandoned her.
A few years later, the war ended, and the humans signed a peace treaty with her species, forbidding them from keeping humans as pets or slaves.
Vina: Huh?
She didn't understand politics, but why was the human representative at the treaty signing her beloved pet, who'd been missing for years?!
No, he wasn't her precious pet anymore. He'd abandoned her. Sob.
Then one day, someone knocked on her door.
Her human was standing outside, looking radiant and impeccably dressed.
An electronic voice came from the newly developed translator.
"Master,"
Her human took hold of her tentacles.
"I'm back."
1. The female lead is a nonhuman.
2. I'll start this once I've finished the fanfiction I'm working on. (At this rate, I probably won't get to it until 2025, sob.)
By the way, is anyone actually willing to read an original story by me? orz
