I'm Sawada Yoshinari. I have a brother who's a few seconds older than me, a wise and lively mom, and a dad who died young.
Whenever I get into trouble, some annoying person always scolds me by bringing up the fact that I don't have a dad to keep me in line.
It makes me furious.
It's not just because I hate being told that. There's another reason: I keep dreaming that my dad is actually still alive, but out there doing all kinds of shady things.
So I made up my mind to become a police officer, arrest him sooner or later, and make him apologize five hundred times in front of Mom and my brother.
Then one day, someone suddenly told me that my brother and I were going to be groomed as heirs to the mafia boss. We might even end up fighting each other to see who came out on top.
No way! If anyone has to do it, Tsuna can do it! With the way he is, he'll be even easier to catch later... Ah! Mom! Sawada Tsunayoshi stole the remote!
Sawada Tsunayoshi shouted to Mom too: "Sawada Yoshinari's been watching for two hours. It's my turn!"
We glared at each other, practically crackling with electricity, then grabbed the sofa cushions and fought like mad for five minutes. Afterward, I sighed as if I were exasperated and said, "Honestly, what am I going to do with you?" While Sawada Tsunayoshi muttered suspiciously, "Since when is she this easy to deal with?", I threw my head back and howled:
"Teacher Reborn! Sawada Tsunayoshi isn't doing his homework!"
"Waaah! Why'd you call him?! Pff!" (Sound of someone getting kicked.)
Sawada Tsunayoshi has a younger sister who's a few seconds younger than him.
When they were little, the siblings were close and always thought of each other whenever something good came along. Though both kids were clumsy, they tried their best to help each other.
But after they started elementary school, someone changed. At any rate, they suddenly seemed to start getting on each other's nerves.
When Tsunayoshi sat alone at his desk during lunch, Sawada Yoshinari would charge into his classroom from the next one and steal his lunch, making him chase her down the hallway like a parent after a runaway child, all because she'd forgotten to bring her own.
And when he passed through the parking lot after school and saw Sawada Yoshinari standing alone in front of her toppled bicycle with her head bowed and not saying a word, Sawada Tsunayoshi would take the croissant from her schoolbag and stuff the whole thing into his mouth while she wasn't looking, simply because he couldn't stand her acting all serious.
People often joked that these two good-for-nothing siblings couldn't bully anyone but each other, so they took their frustrations out on each other and became Namimori's famous source of entertainment.
But only Sawada Tsunayoshi knew that he and Sawada Yoshinari cared about each other more than anyone else in the world.
His little sister was the loudest, most selfish, most cowardly brat in the universe, who would throw a tantrum if he played her game console without asking.
His little sister was also the most generous, kind, and brave idiot in the universe, who would fight with all her might to keep him safe, even if it killed her.
And yet...
"Hey! Sawada Yoshinari, get back here!" Sawada Tsunayoshi shouted in despair, clutching his head. "I thought you were just saying that! Why did you really go and arrest Dad?!"
As expected, Iemitsu Sawada would face the most terrifying consequence of failing as a father.
During the Varia Ring Battles, he realized that his daughter wouldn't set foot outside her room as long as he was home. Under the reproachful gaze of his friend, he chose to sigh and back down.
During the Representative Battle, their relationship deteriorated further. At least his son would talk to him, but his daughter wouldn't say a single word.
He still chose to act as if nothing had happened, joining the fight and making enemies of his two children.
On the battlefield, he beat his son until he lost all fighting spirit.
Just when he thought his daughter would break down in despair and lose the will to fight too, the one who rose from the rubble was the small figure he had always avoided facing, pretending nothing was wrong.
The Dying Will Flame on Sawada Yoshinari's forehead surged, releasing an indescribable pressure.
She was covered in wounds, head lowered so that her expression was hidden. Her dry lips were pressed tightly together. His daughter walked toward them one step at a time, stood in front of her brother as he knelt on the ground, then lifted her head.
Iemitsu Sawada saw his daughter grit her teeth. Her eyes were red and wet, tears kept streaming down her face, and her brows were drawn tight. Every detail filled him with unease.
Only then did he realize that, unlike Tsunayoshi, who had always been quick to cry, he had apparently never seen his daughter cry before.
"...Iemitsu Sawada," he heard the girl's trembling, tearful voice for the first time, filled with endless anger and hurt. "I'm going to make you regret this more than anything."
Iemitsu Sawada regretted it.
Not only because his daughter beat him badly during the Representative Battle and then gave him an earful afterward, but also because when they finally managed to speak honestly, Sawada Yoshinari kept wiping away her tears with the back of her hand, crying as she blurted out whatever came to mind:
"I hate you the most! Reborn is more like my dad than you are!"
Iemitsu Sawada: "..."
Sawada Yoshinari: "Just go away! I have Mom and my brother, and Reborn, who's ten thousand times more responsible than you, as my dad. There's no place for you in this family!"
Sawada Tsunayoshi, eavesdropping nearby, immediately threw open the balcony door in alarm. "No way! Reborn is even less acceptable! At least ask what I think!"

1. The story started from a sudden idea about having Iemitsu fight a father-daughter battle.
2. They're real squabbling siblings who argue every day.
3. The focus is on family love, and the main storyline is about beating Iemitsu up. The younger sister might fall in love during her teenage years. Her partner is undecided for now, or there might be separate endings.
Theme: Family love itself is a tremendous flame.
