A Friend Who Never Sees the Moon

Xiang Bingxi has been in love with his childhood friend, Xiao Huayu.

For twenty years, Xiao Huayu has been his only friend.

Xiao Huayu is different. He’s popular, always going to parties, and has slept off his drunkenness at Xiang Bingxi’s place eighty times. The other twenty times, he slept at his girlfriend’s place.

Yes, it’s a gay man in love with a straight man.

He’s been in love for ten years.

Xiang Bingxi has hidden his feelings well enough to stay friends with Xiao Huayu.

Well enough to let Xiao Huayu drunkenly throw tantrums around him without restraint.

In ten years, Xiao Huayu can’t remember how many girlfriends he’s had, but Xiang Bingxi remembers every single one: ten in all, and every relationship ended in a breakup. Some of those breakups were even because of Xiang Bingxi.

Everyone knows that, in Xiao Huayu’s heart, Xiang Bingxi comes first.

He taught him to read and write, and patiently guided him until he learned how to express himself.

When Xiang Bingxi couldn’t get up in the mornings at school, Xiao Huayu carried him there on his back.

Because Xiang Bingxi was frail, Xiao Huayu got into medical school and kept him close, looking after him.

He took full responsibility for his food, clothing, housing, and transportation. He opened restaurants, founded a clothing company, built a winery, and created an Eden just for him.

For Xiang Bingxi, he could give up everything, even his life.

Xiao Huayu had heard certain remarks so many times that he was sick of them.

“You love him so much, why not just get together with Xiang Bingxi?”

“Xiang Bingxi, Xiang Bingxi! You can’t see anyone but him!”

“Are you sure you don’t have feelings for Xiang Bingxi?”

Xiao Huayu was speechless at their assumptions. He picked up the microphone and addressed everyone.

“I will never feel anything for Xiang Bingxi beyond friendship. And he feels the same way, right, Xiang Bingxi?”

Down in the audience, Xiang Bingxi smiled calmly. “We’ll always be friends.”

Still, he couldn’t help envying and resenting every one of Xiao Huayu’s girlfriends as he watched them kiss, book hotel rooms, and flaunt their affection...

He hated that it wasn’t him.

Just once. He only wanted it to happen once.

And then he put on women’s clothes, dressed up as a woman, and dated Xiao Huayu.
