A god of slaughter has appeared in ancient times?
Everyone pointed at his wanted poster.
"This god of slaughter married into a merchant family first, then a farming family, then a high-ranking official's family, and finally took a handsome wife. He spent half his life lazing around, born with a lucky lot. What's he up to now?"
"You don't know? After he married into the merchant's family, they were ruined. After he married into a farming family, the whole family was slaughtered. After he married into the official's family, the whole family disappeared. After he took a handsome wife, his own family was executed to the last person. I guess he's avenging his husband."
"No, no, no. When his in-laws prospered, he squandered their wealth. When they went bankrupt, he lived in comfort. When they farmed, he roamed about at his leisure. When they were all dead, he inherited the family fortune. When his in-laws all disappeared and his own family was executed to the last person, all he wanted was to live his own life. He's a heartless, faithless young man. How could he be taking revenge?"
"If he's not taking revenge, then why is he killing people?"
Now and then, passersby crossed paths with this god of slaughter.
They saw him dressed in blue, drifting along on the strength of the wine. When he came across a pickpocket, he neither pursued nor punished them. When he came across someone being bullied, he stepped in to help. When he came across injustice, he cleared the victim's name. When he came across disaster, he gave away all his wealth.
When the world was unjust, officials shielded one another, and ordinary people had nowhere to turn for help and could not sleep at night, the god of slaughter drew his sword. With every step he took, he rose to a higher office, climbing ever higher. The fierce wind ceased when blood was shed, and it blew away without leaving a single wronged soul behind.
It was the snowiest year anyone could remember, yet the snow stopped only in the twelfth month. The god of slaughter sheathed his sword. With every step, he crossed a pit of blood, striding along a long river. The seventh month turned to winter, and in the twelfth month he brought the swallows home.
Later, as the god of slaughter continued to prosper, he happened upon a poetry gathering and said to himself, "Without the bones of an immortal, I'll settle for being a short-lived immortal in the mortal world."
A laid-back scholar beside him heard this and chuckled. He had unwittingly adapted a poem, but had recited it incorrectly.
Then the god of slaughter said, "I don't know the laughter of Lord Lin in those days. If the world has someone like him, it would be better to have no one at all."
How could such a kindhearted, illiterate young man be called a god of slaughter?
And yet many people called him a villain. We don't bother trying to understand what a villain is, and we aren't afraid of the System. We only know that a group of outsiders, claiming to act for our own good, are killing the people who truly work for us.
So we grab pots, bowls, pans, brooms, butcher's knives, and whatever else we can find, stand in front of him, and swear to protect him with the strength of our entire family!
Little do they know that the young man has two dreams in life.
First, to kill the emperor.
Second, to bring down this dynasty!
