Jiang Zhiyu transmigrated into a book.
The good news: He was the legitimate son of a marquis's household, the emperor was his maternal uncle, and his father was the General Who Guards the Far Frontier. He had grown up cherished by everyone around him.
The bad news: This was a melodramatic novel about a real and fake young master, and he was the fake one who had taken the real heir's place. The real young master, Xie Mingfei, was about to arrive in the capital to reunite with his family, and Jiang Zhiyu's good days were about to end.
In the book, the fake young master would later scheme against Xie Mingfei time and again to keep the family's affection, only to be thrown out of the marquis's household and die miserably on the streets.
Jiang Zhiyu: "..."
He was just a lazy couch potato who wanted to coast through life. Besides, after living in this world for so many years, he'd long since been spoiled into someone too delicate to lift a shoulder or raise a hand.
He absolutely could not be thrown out of the marquis's household.
But the affection they'd shared over the years was real. He didn't want to watch his parents struggle and weep, nor did he want to spend every day listening to the servants whisper about him.
He decided to wait until things had blown over before figuring out what to do.
So he came up with the excuse of "going south to clear his mind," packed his things, and headed for Jiangnan.

He spent the journey sightseeing and enjoying himself, so it wasn't too dull. He even rescued a handsome young gentleman from a band of robbers.
When he heard the man was also going to Jiangnan, Jiang Zhiyu invited him to travel together.
They got along wonderfully (or so Jiang Zhiyu thought).
But a few months later, after getting drunk, he slept with the man.
Jiang Zhiyu: "...I took things too far."
Ignoring his disheveled clothes, he pushed himself upright and tried to sound calm as he reassured the man. "Don't worry. Once I return to the capital, I'll give you a proper status."
But before long, he ran off and went straight home.
He figured that the man was far away in Jiangnan and didn't even know his name, so surely he wouldn't come looking for him at the marquis's residence...
3.
The marquis's garden was lush with spring blossoms.
Jiang Zhiyu stared at the familiar face, eyes wide, and nearly dropped to his knees on the spot.
No, seriously, how had this man actually found him?!
The Marchioness standing beside him pinched his ear and scolded him affectionately. "Honestly, where have you run off to play this time? This is your elder brother, Mingfei."
Jiang Zhiyu felt the sky come crashing down.
He looked up and met Xie Mingfei's unfathomable gaze. A chill ran down his back. His life was in danger.
No, seriously, he'd slept with Xie Mingfei?!
4.
The young master's identity was awkward, and the two young masters didn't get along.
The servants of the household all wondered when this pampered fake young master would be thrown out.
Only the page who had always served Jiang Zhiyu stood trembling guard outside the door, afraid his young master would suffer again.
Faint sobs could be heard from the study now and then.
Another voice, gentle but tinged with coldness, asked, "Jiang Zhiyu, where's the proper status you promised me?"
Jiang Zhiyu's eyes were red at the corners and his legs trembled. He stammered, "E-Elder Brother?"
"Heh." After a long pause, Xie Mingfei gave a quiet laugh.
His cool fingertips closed around the ankle that was trying to draw back, and he pulled Jiang Zhiyu firmly back in front of him.
His voice was cold and low, like thin ice shattering against jade. "We'll do it again, and we won't stop until you know."
