A Look That Speaks, A Heart That Answers

When Xu Qingyi was young, there was a dancer she loved dearly.

She followed her from the days when no one knew her to the time when crowds adored her, never missing a single performance.

There was only one exception: the audience had taken their seats, but the dancer never showed.

She heard that the dancer had been in a car accident on her way to the theater. From then on, she would have to spend the rest of her life in a wheelchair.

A new neighbor moved in next door to Lin Yangui.

She heard the newcomer was a photographer with a bit of a name for herself. After years of drifting from place to place, she had finally settled in a small town. She was supposedly a tall, slender girl who had brought along a big dog. Though it looked a little fierce, the children in the neighborhood loved it.

Lin Yangui paid little attention. She had long since shut herself away in her cramped room, dragging her disabled body through the years.

But the newcomer came and knocked on her door.

She said, "Hello, I'm your new neighbor. I hope we get along."

She said, "Sister Yangui, my dog really likes you. Could I bring it over to sit with you now and then?"

She said, "Sis, which wardrobe should I put my clothes in?"

Much later, Lin Yangui found herself held up on top of a tall cabinet. Her useless legs were forced to wrap around the other's waist as Xu Qingyi tilted her head up to kiss her, her gaze sincere and reverent. In a husky voice, she repeated again and again, "Lin Yangui, I've liked you for such a long, long time."

Lin Yangui hooked an arm around her neck and said, "What a coincidence. So have I."
