Yu Zhuyi told everyone she met that Li Shutan was the red rose she had picked, the moonlight she had pulled from the water, and her goddess of inspiration, controlling her joys and sorrows and determining whether she moved forward or turned back.

Later, Yu Zhuyi was strangled by thorny vines until her bones ached and burned by moonlight. Her inspiration dried up, and she sank into the abyss of darkness, rooted to the spot.

The feelings that once seemed impossible to suppress, the happiness that had once come so easily, had now become the most torturous of soft knives, slowly carving them both apart.

"Suinyi, what do you think of our relationship now?"

Yu Zhuyi still remembered Li Shutan standing with her back to her, leaning against the balcony railing. The sheer curtains billowed in the wind, blurring Yu Zhuyi's vision.

She could barely keep herself from trembling. Only by sheer force did she steady her voice and pretend to be calm as she said, "It's pretty good."

"Is that so?" Li Shutan replied, her meaning unclear. The cigarette between her fingers had burned down to its end.

That night,

Yu Zhuyi stood where Li Shutan had stood before, watching her climb into someone else's car.

Pretty good,

wasn't it?
