My name is Inuyasha. My mother is the human Izayoi, my father is the great demon Inu no Taisho, and I have an older brother named Sesshomaru!
My brother is a great demon too, and he's super strong! His tail is just as comfortable to step on as Father's! He's so incredibly strong!
He keeps telling me to call him "elder brother," but Grandma down the mountain says "big brother" sounds closer!
When will I become a great demon like Father and my brother?
-
One day, the eldest young master of the Western Lands decides to set out on a journey of cultivation.
To grow stronger and earn his father's recognition, this is an essential trial. The young master is resolute. After coldly bidding his mother farewell, he turns to begin his journey.
No one is there to see him off at the palace gates. Of course not. The world of demons has no pity or tenderness. Even fathers and sons may fight to the death over territory. No one would think it strange. There is only cold blood and the pleasure of the hunt...
"Big brother!"
A childish voice rings out behind him. A little figure in red, carrying a small shoulder bag, stumbles out of the courtyard.
A crowd of servants follows close behind, and if you look carefully, at the very front is his own father.
Only, the father renowned for his imposing and dignified presence now looks as though he's about to cry.
Sesshomaru: "..."
"Inuyasha!" Inu no Taisho rushes forward and scoops Inuyasha up. "No fooling around!"
"No! No! Let go! I want to go with Big Brother!" Inuyasha kicks his short legs furiously, like a dog paddling in water. "Mother already said yes! I want to go on a journey of cultivation with Big Brother!"
The servants crowd around at once, all talking over one another to persuade him.
"Young master, cultivation isn't a game. It's dangerous out there!"
"That's right, there's no more of Uncle's pastries out there."
"And no fun toys!"
"At night, you'll have to sleep on hard rocks!"
"There might even be ghosts!"
"Doesn't Inuyasha want his father anymore?" Inu no Taisho chokes up, rubbing his cheek frantically against Inuyasha's head. "Father will be lonely without you."
Inuyasha protests, "I want to become a great demon too!"
Inu no Taisho: "Your brother can be the great demon. Inuyasha doesn't need to do anything!"
Sesshomaru: "..."
So noisy.
In the end, he still carries his little brother off with him.
Inu no Taisho tearfully bids them farewell: "Be careful! Big Brother, don't let Inuyasha fall!"
Sesshomaru, back in his beast form, gives his father on the ground a cold glance.
Ridiculous. How many times has he done this already?
[Before You Read]
1. It's the same old dogs, just in a fun what-if story.
2. In the original, by the time little dog boy was born, big dog boy was already a teenager. This story makes some changes so the two dog boys can grow up together. Consider this your heads-up.
3. The original should take place in Japan, but I'm bad at Japanese geography [scratches head], so I've made up my own geography [scratches head].
4. Characters who died in the original may or may not be brought back. This story doesn't follow Hanyo no Yashahime.
5. The original's main plot will probably happen in the extra chapters, or near the ending. There will be canon pairings.
6. The focus is family. Truly brotherly love and respect (not really).
7. Daily life. Daily life. Daily life. No grand political schemes, just little moments of warmth.
8. Any out-of-character behavior is on me! Blame me! Don't blame them!
Theme: Brothers!
