Sentinel-and-guide story, with a guide gong.
He Shiyue, an S-rank guide, once fought across the stars alongside his S-rank sentinel Ying Que, and together they were the Empire's brightest twin stars.
But after the Empire had no further use for them, the emperor grew wary and arranged to have them assassinated. To protect Ying Que, He Shiyue piloted a starship and perished in the sea of stars.
When He Shiyue woke again, he was on a garbage planet.
By a twist of fate, he survived the explosion, but he was gravely injured and his mental domain was damaged. Forced to sever his link with his sentinel, he became an F-rank guide.
To return to the Empire's capital and find his sentinel partner, He Shiyue sold all his possessions and planned to buy weapons and a ticket from the black market.
Seeing how lavishly he spent, a black market dealer casually gave him a battered, badly injured sentinel to pull his cart.
“This sentinel lost his guide, and his mental domain collapsed. His senses are all mixed up. He was sold to an arena as a public slave, and he’s covered in bite wounds. He was barely going to survive, so they practically gave him away to me.”
“Anyway, this guy’s gone crazy. He doesn’t recognize anyone and bites everyone he sees. Have him pull your cart home, then just toss him out when you’re done.”
The black market dealer waved a hand dismissively.
He Shiyue looked at the familiar sentinel before him, unable to believe his eyes. His voice trembled. “...Ying Que?”
The sentinel was covered in blood and paid no attention to him, baring his teeth and trying to bite him. The pride and confidence of the Empire’s brightest star were nowhere to be seen.
He Shiyue hurriedly crouched down and used his feeble mental power to link with the sentinel, gently brushing over his utterly shattered mental domain.
The black-haired sentinel froze for a moment. The feral look in his eyes gradually faded.
He stared ahead in confusion. He still couldn’t recognize He Shiyue, but he forced a broken, hoarse sound from his throat.
“Yue... Yue...”
“I... missed... you so much...”
The sentinel had been bitten until he was nearly killed without shedding a tear, yet now he whimpered and began to cry.
.
He Shiyue took Ying Que home.
He applied medicine, bandaged his wounds, and repaired his mental domain, piecing his once inseparable partner back together bit by bit. The other man gradually regained his senses.
At the same time, He Shiyue began building his power from the garbage planet, preparing to chop off that damned emperor’s head and avenge the murder.
But he never expected his old partner’s attitude toward him to grow increasingly strange.
While he had amnesia, Ying Que clung to him twenty-four hours a day, calling him “Yueyue” over and over.
After recovering his memories, his gaze still stayed fixed on He Shiyue, and he woke in a panic every night to check that he was still breathing.
The guy who used to argue and bicker with him every day had somehow started blushing whenever he saw him.
He Shiyue finally couldn’t resist asking, “Do you have feelings for me?”
Ying Que, who had always been terribly shy, actually admitted it openly. “Yeah. Want to form a lifelong bond with me?”
As he spoke, he started taking off his clothes and climbing into bed, no longer the hot-tempered guy who used to fly into a rage if He Shiyue even touched his hand.
He Shiyue: “...”
His sentinel seemed to be fixed, but also seemed to have broken completely somewhere along the way.
.
In the third year after the Empire’s twin stars had fallen one after another, a resistance army rose to power on a remote garbage planet.
The resistance army swept forward, its iron cavalry smashing through the Empire and taking the emperor’s head.
And the two leaders were none other than the Empire’s twin stars, who should have perished in the sea of stars long ago.
Gentle, beautiful, scheming guide gong x instinct-driven, proud and untamed sentinel shou
Partners to lovers, a tale of revenge and rebellion
Author’s setting: Sentinels and guides can merge with their spirit companions and transform into a second form, so both men have huge wings. (If you clip my wings, I’ll destroy your whole heaven.jpg)
The shou has very severe PTSD early on. He is extremely dependent on the gong and constantly fears being abandoned. It only gets better after the gong has soothed and comforted him for a long time. Somewhat similar to hurt/comfort fic. 1v1, both are sexually inexperienced. If this isn’t your thing, feel free to skip. Ship-bashing, reverse-shipping, dream-shipping, and provocative comments will be deleted. Thanks for understanding.
