A 1960s Beauty Marries the Wrong Army Officer

Blurb:

Cui Ran opens her eyes in the 1960s. Her stepfather's family is forcing her to marry an old widower from the neighboring village. He has offered a large bride price, and they want to trade her for money to get wives for their two sons.

So Cui Ran climbs over the wall in the middle of the night and runs away.

According to the original owner's memories, her biological father had arranged a childhood betrothal for the heroine while he was alive. The man's surname was Shen, and he lived with the 623rd Corps. Cui Ran uses the money the original owner saved to buy a train ticket and go there, but she faints as soon as she reaches the entrance to the military base.

A sentry helps the weak Cui Ran to her feet. With her cracked, dry lips, she manages to say, "I-I'm Shen Jian's fiancee."

Captain Shen, who is still training outside, suddenly gets a phone call saying his fiancee has fainted from hunger outside the corps and he needs to return immediately.

Shen Jian: ???

In his twenty-plus years of life, Shen Jian has never had his reputation ruined by a woman before.

Just as he is about to send Cui Ran away, he receives a telegram from his mother: "Xiaojian, I've arranged a match for you. The girl is fair and pretty. She said she's going to visit you at the base. If you like her, treat her well."

Shen Jian looks at the petite, sallow-faced woman in front of him. She doesn't match a single detail in his mother's description.

He folds the telegram and grits his teeth. "You came from An County?"

Cui Ran has no idea where An County is, but she nods anyway.

Shen Jian's face darkens. "My mother sent you?"

With nowhere else to go, Cui Ran lies again. "Yes."

Shen Jian: ...

She's definitely my real mother!

Later.

Shen Jian gradually falls for Cui Ran, only to receive another telegram from his mother, with two furious lines: "Xiaojian, I just found out that girl ran off with someone on her way to find you! I'll find you a better one!"

Only then does Shen Jian realize that Cui Ran had gone to the wrong person from the very beginning.
