Our Down-and-Out Housekeeper Is Actually the Emperor's Uncle!

Everyone says that Lu Jian, the emperor's maternal uncle, is a treacherous chancellor who brings ruin to the nation.

In public, he appoints people based on personal connections, sells official posts, and has his faction throughout the entire court.

In private, he is debauched, cruel, and vindictive.

Censor-in-Chief Zuo Bai impeached him, and left the palace with one leg broken. He spent three months bedridden at home.

General Yu Hao fell out with him and was pushed out of the capital to serve as a prefect in a remote province.

They say Lu Jian even lets his servants abduct women along the road when he goes home to pay respects to his ancestors.

The people in the capital tremble at the mention of him and stay as far away as possible.

And yet this man is the emperor's maternal uncle, and His Majesty trusts and favors him completely.

Chang Yuan thought the emperor's uncle would be an old man in his seventies with three wives and four concubines.

Until one day, he came to her family's noodle shop and ordered plain noodles.

When she brought them over, he looked up at her.

His face was strikingly handsome, his features beyond compare.

Wait, why does that face look familiar?

Later, fine carriages, fine horses, and luxurious furs and ornaments flowed into her home like water.

Chang Yuan dropped to her knees, her voice firm.

"This common woman will not become a concubine."

The emperor's uncle pulled her to her feet and bent down to brush the dust from her knees.

With a bright smile, he said, "Who said I wanted you as a concubine?"

Chang Yuan refused again.

"I'm no more than a withered willow, plain and ordinary. I'm afraid I'm not to your taste, my lord."

The emperor's uncle's smile deepened. "How convenient. I'm a common man myself, and I like plain and ordinary women."
