[Genuinely Sweet and Naive Heroine vs. Fake Spendthrift]

One-line summary: The playboy pulls every trick in the book to take her in

// The silly version

After a sweet, naive girl gets married,

can she still be sweet and naive?

Yu Qianmo proves firsthand that she can.

The price is getting kicked out of her home and ending up on the streets,

where a playboy picks her up.

// The serious version

Before the writer father died,

he married her off to his proudest disciple.

That disciple was a master of both writing and marketing,

and made her father's books bestsellers across the country, earning the publisher a fortune.

But she never saw a penny of it.

After exactly two years of marriage, her husband's family kicked her out,

on the grounds that she did no work and bore no children.

After half an hour wandering the streets,

she was picked up by Wu Chongxiao, the city's famous playboy and eldest son of the richest family, the Wu family.

Yu Qianmo said solemnly, "I'm a spendthrift. My ex-husband said I bankrupted him with my spending."

Wu Chongxiao turned to look at her, his seductive peach-blossom eyes sweet enough to drip with honey. "Perfect. I'm a spendthrift too. A spendthrift girl and a spendthrift guy are made for each other."

Yu Qianmo asked, "If we get together, won't we end up begging for scraps?"

Wu Chongxiao shrugged indifferently. "No worries. The Wu family is huge and wealthy. We can keep spending for years."

Later...

Wu Chongxiao, playboy, famous spendthrift, eldest son of the Wu family, put an end to the family's infighting, crushed his business rivals, and became the undisputed head of the wealthiest family in the country.

Yu Qianmo read the newspaper reports praising Master Wu's "ruthless and formidable" business tactics, then looked at the man in the mirror, who was devotedly combing her hair. Her feelings were complicated.

Wait, wasn't he supposed to be a spendthrift?

Reader's guide:

1. The heroine has had previous relationships; the hero has not. The heroine has been married.

2. The hero is morally imperfect.

3. An old-school Mary Sue story: both the male lead and the supporting male characters love the heroine.

4. Set in an alternate Republican-era China, with fictional elements. Don't take the details too seriously.
