My Mom's Boyfriend

Ji Shixiao was invited to a top local university to discuss university-industry partnerships. In the student cafeteria, she asked a fresh-faced young man in black-framed glasses if she could borrow his phone charger.

The young man was eating. He put down his chopsticks, and then he vanished right in front of her.

He left his backpack behind, his phone screen was still lit, and he hadn't even taken a bite of the ribs on his plate.

Ji Shixiao thought he was adorably silly.

Just as Ji Shixiao was about to look for someone else, the young man returned with a power bank.

Ji Shixiao charged her phone and added him on WeChat. He sent her a message: [Tan Pei, Class of 2025, Materials and Chemical Engineering].

Ji Shixiao still thought he was adorably silly.

Ji Shixiao is a single mother. The energy she spends navigating the workplace leaves her exhausted, yet after work she still has to go head-to-head with her son, Ji Shu.

Ever since Tan Pei became her son's companion, life has gotten much easier for Ji Shixiao.

Ji Shu's grades improved at a visible rate, he slimmed down, grew taller, kicked his internet addiction, and developed better and better habits.

Ji Shixiao also started smiling more. The one thing that could wipe the smile off her face was her son introducing Tan Pei to other people as, "Mom's boyfriend."

Eventually, those wild claims turned out to have a basis in fact.

Later, when the group's chairman came to inspect the base, the man accompanying Ji Shixiao was the same one who whispered "Sis" in her ear every night.

Making his way through the crowd, the chairman introduced him to her: "Let me introduce you. This is my son, Tan Pei."
