Who Could Say No to Assistant Xu?

<Fully revised; differs significantly from pirated copies> Shi Shu went on a business trip to a company branch. The branch manager's assistant was a recent graduate in a management trainee program: a fair-skinned, clean-cut young man with a sweet, adorable smile. He carried a black bag over his shoulder. Inside were a shirt and slacks, hangover medicine, liver supplements... When Shi Shu checked his work, he took a tablet out of the bag. The slides were complete, clean, and focused. After the business dinner, he walked Shi Shu back to her hotel. The night breeze was chilly, and Shi Shu instinctively drew her arms in. He immediately took the backpack off his shoulder. Shi Shu gave him an amused look. "What, are you hiding a down jacket in there too?" The young man froze with a heat patch in his hand. Then he took off his own down jacket and offered it to her with both hands. "If you don't mind, Ms. Shi, please wear this for now." Shi Shu poached him from his former employer: From now on, you're working for me. - Xu Yu (pronounced Yi, fourth tone) was taken by the group's president to become her assistant. His former boss warned him that Shi Shu was a woman president, so he would need to take especially good care of her. From then on, the bag on Xu Yu's shoulder... grew even heavier. When Shi Shu traveled for work, her travel pillow and nap blanket were always ready at a moment's notice. When Shi Shu had her period, he wrapped sanitary products in a handkerchief and handed them to her. When Shi Shu's fingernails grew long, he knelt on one knee to trim them into a neat, rounded shape. When Shi Shu's chronic insomnia flared up, he took out his precious few sleeping pills, gritted his teeth... and dumped them all in the trash. Shi Shu: "...Are you trying to revolt?" Xu Yu's neck turned bright red. "Could I sing you to sleep?" Shi Shu fell silent for a moment and pinched the soft nape of his neck. Who could possibly say no to Assistant Xu? Ji Shixiao was invited to a leading local university to discuss a university-business partnership. In the student cafeteria, she asked a fresh-faced young man in black-rimmed glasses to borrow his phone charger. He was eating. He set down his chopsticks, and then he was gone. He left his backpack behind, his phone screen was still lit, and he hadn't even touched the ribs on his plate. Ji Shixiao thought he was adorably silly. Just as Ji Shixiao was about to look for someone else, the young man returned with a power bank. Ji Shixiao charged her phone and added him on WeChat. He messaged her: [Tan Pei, Class of 2025, Materials and Chemical Engineering] (Pei, fourth tone). Ji Shixiao still thought he was adorably silly. - Ji Shixiao was a single mother. Managing things at work drained all her energy, yet after work she still had to outwit her son, Ji Shu. Ever since Tan Pei became her son's companion tutor, life had gotten much easier for Ji Shixiao. Ji Shu's grades improved visibly, he lost weight, grew taller, kicked his internet addiction, and developed better habits. Ji Shixiao also smiled more. The only thing that made her stop smiling was how her son introduced Tan Pei to other people: "My mom's boyfriend." - In time, that nonsense became the truth. Later, when the chairman of the group came to inspect the branch, the person accompanying him in conversation was the same man who whispered "Sis" in her ear every night. The chairman made his way through the crowd and introduced him: "Come meet my son, Tan Pei." Theme: The most important thing in life is to be happy.
