After her company was acquired, Su Wangru realized that the new CEO, Liang Xuci, was the man she'd almost dated years ago.
Liang Xuci was great in every way, except that he was extremely strict about his appearance. He had a whole system for his grooming, posture, body fat, even the curve of each strand of hair, the pattern on his tie, and the material of his cuff links. He was quite a handful.
Su Wangru and Liang Xuci were invited to appear on the same program. To help audiences relate to the business leaders, the host asked whether either of them had any personal troubles.
Su Wangru replied that, like most parents, she worried about her child's studies and education.
After taking two seconds to process the fact that she'd actually chosen to get married and have a child so young, Liang Xuci replied coldly, “I can't relate.”
The host seized the opportunity to ask, “Mr. Liang, have you never been in a relationship?”
Looking at Su Wangru, Liang Xuci continued coldly, “I have.”
Before the host could ask another question, Liang Xuci kept his eyes on Su Wangru and said coldly, “If she'd chosen me back then, our child wouldn't be so ordinary.”

After filming wrapped, there was a child in the lounge who was unmistakably Su Wangru's. The child wore a miserable expression. Two full pages of scratch paper were covered in more than a dozen different approaches to the problem, yet not one answer was right.
He'd once spent a night with his ex-girlfriend, so her child must be his nephew. Liang Xuci decided to find out just how ordinary this nephew really was.
Just half an hour later, Liang Xuci had taken off his suit jacket, pulled off his tie, crushed his cuff links, and rolled up his sleeves. His black shirt was rumpled, and the hairstyle he'd carefully prepared for the show was completely ruined.
Looking at the child, who strongly resembled his ex-girlfriend but not him at all, Liang Xuci asked, “Who's your dad? His genes must be incredibly strong.”
The child looked him up and down and calmly replied, “Probably you.”
Liang Xuci: “?”
“If I weren't yours, would you have spent all this time teaching me?”
“You taught me math, then Chinese, then English. And after English, you even asked if I was mentally healthy.”
“Even if you're crazy in love with my mom and desperate to win her back, seeing a kid like me should help you get over her.”

Ji Shixiao was invited to a top local university to discuss a business partnership. In the student cafeteria, she asked a fresh-faced young man wearing black-framed glasses if she could borrow his phone charger.
The young man was eating. He put down his chopsticks and vanished from right in front of her.
He left his backpack behind, his phone screen was still lit, and he hadn't even finished his ribs.
Ji Shixiao thought he was adorably silly.
Just as Ji Shixiao was about to look for someone else, the young man came back with a power bank.
Ji Shixiao charged her phone and added him on WeChat. He messaged her: [Tan Pei, Class of 2025, Materials and Chemical Engineering (Pei, fourth tone)].
Ji Shixiao still thought he was adorably silly.

Ji Shixiao was a single mother. Dealing with people at work took all her energy, yet after work she still had to outwit her son, Ji Shu.
Ever since Tan Pei became her son's tutor and companion, Ji Shixiao had a much easier time.
Ji Shu's grades improved visibly, he lost weight, grew taller, kicked his internet addiction, and developed better habits.
Ji Shixiao became more cheerful too. The only thing that failed to make her smile was her son's habit of introducing Tan Pei to people as “Mom's boyfriend.”

In the end, what had once been nonsense became the truth.
Later, when the chairman of the group came to inspect the base, the person walking beside her and chatting with her was the same man who whispered “Sis” in her ear every night.
Making his way through the crowd, the chairman introduced him: “Let me introduce you. This is my son, Tan Pei.”
