A Doll's Suitable Match

In kindergarten, Yan Chu heard an important lesson from the grown-ups: if you were promised to someone as a child, you were supposed to marry them when you grew up. A betrothal promise couldn't just be ignored. By that logic, Qi Jialuo was the man who would become her husband. From then on... When Yan Chu walked, she had to hold Qi Jialuo's hand. "Husband, you have to hold Chu Chu's hand." When Yan Chu ate, Qi Jialuo had to feed her. "Husband, you have to feed Chu Chu her food." When Yan Chu went to bed, Qi Jialuo had to read her picture books. "Husband, you have to tell Chu Chu a story." On the day Qi Jialuo's family moved away, Yan Chu chased their black sports car for three whole blocks, crying her heart out. "Husband, you absolutely can't forget Chu Chu!" Eight-year-old Qi Jialuo watched the little crybaby fall to the ground in the rearview mirror. His fists clenched, but he said nothing. - When the new college students arrived for orientation, Qi Jialuo picked Yan Chu out of the crowd at a glance. She was stretching her neck and looking around at the club recruitment booths. Swallowing his pride, Qi Jialuo greeted her warmly. "Chu Chu?" By then, Yan Chu was used to being fawned over. "Who are you?" Qi Jialuo pressed his lips together. "..." He didn't say a word. Clearly, he wanted to pursue her by taking a shortcut. Yan Chu grew even more impatient. "There's a queue if you want to chase me." "You dumped me pretty brazenly," Qi Jialuo said with a nod. "Sure. Can I take a number?" Blurb written on November 16, 2021.
