The Butterfly Lovers: The Villain Is Determined to Redeem Himself

Ma Wencai, son of the Governor of Hangzhou, was renowned from a young age for his extraordinary talent. He achieved great things in life, yet died young.

Unexpectedly, the sharp tongues of the world turned him into a good-for-nothing playboy who accomplished nothing, a vicious man who broke up lovers. People's words were so cruel, passed down from generation to generation, condemning and cursing him until he was unable to be reborn, life after life.

Reborn one day, Ma Wencai resolved to change everything and stop the rumors that continued to haunt him even after death before they could ever begin.

He remembered the old lines: "We often meet beneath the flowers and moon, and swear our vows with earth for incense, with mountains and seas as witness."

Who had disguised herself as a man and hidden her delicate charm?

Who had blurred the line between male and female, acting as she pleased in the courtyard?

For half his life, Ma Wencai had been caught up in the internal rivalries and struggles of the aristocratic clans. For the other half, he had been occupied with military campaigns in the north and south. Returning to his youth all at once, he hardly knew what to do.

As he quietly held a book in his hands, his usually clever and studious deskmate propped her chin on her hand and watched him.

As he rode his horse and drew his bow, his usually carefree and flirtatious deskmate grabbed the horse's tail.

As he lowered his eyes to play a game of strategy, his usually lively and restless deskmate made faces at him.

He was handsome and renowned, yet his whole life had been bound by the schemes and rivalries of the upper class. Exhausted in body and mind, he had never known freedom.

Zhu Yingtai had been born into the same aristocratic class, yet she lived freely and happily, sincere and carefree. Unlike him, she didn't strive to come first every time or try to please everyone.

After being reborn, Ma Wencai nearly forgot why he had returned to life.

It wasn't until the night of the Qixi Festival, when Zhu Yingtai gave him a purse, that he noticed the marks of earrings on her ears.

"Yingtai, if you're not a woman, why do you have marks on your ears from earrings?"

But Zhu Yingtai laughed at him for sharing a bed with her every night and still not knowing she was a woman.
