District Thirteen

1. District Thirteen is a mysterious space, said to be home to people with all kinds of supernatural abilities. Jiang Chenfeng, the lead researcher, entered District Thirteen alone during a spatial tremor. Legend has it that the place has only daylight and no night, which is why it is called District Thirteen. But after Jiang Chenfeng entered this space, he discovered that the truth was exactly the opposite. Since there was only night, the people of District Thirteen had no sight. Nor did everyone possess supernatural abilities. Jiang Chenfeng cautiously settled in and built a laboratory so he could continue his research. He saw many people with supernatural abilities racing through the darkness. Some were burly and incredibly strong; some were strange and highly intelligent; some were hideous and could devour space; others were stunningly beautiful and possessed irresistible charm... But what astonished Jiang Chenfeng was that these people, each with different abilities and instincts, fought and slaughtered one another every day. Corpses littered the ground, left unattended until the night consumed them. One day, as he dragged back the corpse of a succubus who had died in a fight, ready to begin a new study, a mysterious woman walked slowly into his laboratory, a slender, curved blade in hand. “I’m Zhu Xiaobing, guardian of District Thirteen. I caught you stealing corpses and breaking the rules.” In the night, the tall, fair-skinned woman looked like daylight cutting through the darkness. Her icy tone seemed capable of freezing everything around her. But Jiang Chenfeng stared intently at her dark red eyes, excited and eager. 2. Zhu Xiaobing was an orphan left behind by the great war. Raised by the police chief from a young age, she was chosen as the future guardian of District Thirteen because of her extraordinary gifts and powerful abilities. Since birth, she had known she didn’t belong in this world. People in District Thirteen were born blind, but she could see everything clearly. She was born in darkness, yet hated the endless night. Though she was the guardian of District Thirteen, she constantly wished to break the cruel, cold rules born of its people’s nature. For eighteen years, she had walked through the long night, maintaining the balance of District Thirteen amid slaughter and conflict. Ancient texts spoke of light that had vanished hundreds of years ago. Zhu Xiaobing longed for warm, bright light that could drive away all filth and impurity and devour the dark night. She had always awaited its return. Yet one day, in a dilapidated laboratory, she met a mysterious man. Instead of immediately arresting him for his crime, Zhu Xiaobing put away her weapon, approached him, and covered his dazzling eyes with her hand. Is this what bright, dazzling light looks like? When they met, each saw a unique light from District Thirteen in the other’s eyes. They gradually grew closer, pierced the darkness of District Thirteen together, and welcomed the light. 2023/2/4 Theme: Pursue the light and drive out the filth.
