Playing Foil to Four Heroines [The 1970S]

Qu Nanfeng had just passed the civil service exam when she transmigrated to the resource-poor 1970s. The original owner had just passed the exam for a job, only to have her future sister-in-law and her own mother team up to take it from her. She was left with two options: marry someone she met through matchmaking or go to the countryside as an educated youth. Qu Nanfeng chose the latter. But before heading to the countryside, she was going to make the people who took her job pay. After causing a successful scene, Qu Nanfeng set off for the countryside by train with 200 yuan in compensation from her family. Only afterward did she realize she was the contrasting female supporting character in a novel set in that era. The supporting character went to the countryside with the male lead, clung to him because they’d grown up together, and sabotaged his relationship with the heroine. In the end, she was disgraced and written out of the story. Unwilling to be the childhood-friend nanny who looked after the male lead, Qu Nanfeng wanted to stay as far away from him as possible and focus on building a good life for herself in the countryside. Then she discovered that she wasn’t just the childhood friend who wouldn’t leave the male lead alone in one novel. She was also the childhood friend who tried to come between the hero and heroine in a childhood-friends romance. The greedy mother who looked down on the poor in a stepmother story. The wicked stepmother who abused the children in a second-chance romance. Qu Nanfeng: Are there really no other characters to use? I have to be the shared supporting character in four novels? Are they paying me four times? Instead of playing a supporting role for all these men and women, Qu Nanfeng wanted to keep working toward the goal she’d had in her previous life: starting with the production team, then moving up to the commune, the county, and the city, taking one step at a time toward the life she wanted. Years later, someone interviewed the first female provincial governor since the founding of the nation and asked who she was most grateful to. Qu Nanfeng: I’m most grateful to all the heroes and heroines I’ve met. They made me cut myself off from love and focus entirely on my career. Without them, I wouldn’t be where I am today. Reading guide: 1. Prices have been adjusted, and the setting is fictional. Some things may appear at times that don’t match the historical record. 2. One-on-one romance. There are male and female antagonists. 3. I can’t think of anything else for now. That seems to be all. Theme: Stay optimistic and live your own life
