Can a Little Deaf One Be Spoiled Too?

Qi Zhinan has a hearing impairment and has spent years in a wheelchair.

He attended the last funeral of the year, for the final member of his family.

Everyone coveted his money. In truth, there wasn't much left of the family fortune.

The impression Qi Zhinan gave everyone: cold and eccentric. It was as though no warmth in the world could reach him.

Qi Zhinan had secretly arranged a way to die.

On the operating table on his eighteenth birthday.

His suicide note was a liability waiver, informing the world that his death had nothing to do with the doctor or anyone else.

Three months before his eighteenth birthday, a rather young, gloomy, handsome man barged into his life, claiming to be an uncle with no blood relation to him. His name was Chu Qinghan.

He moved into the home of the stranger who called himself his "uncle," Chu Qinghan.

When people humiliated him, his "uncle" retaliated with ruthless methods: "Your parents have been fired."

When he managed to get a rare score of 27, his "uncle" compared it with his previous result and praised him: "Not bad. That's 13 points higher than last time."

When he didn't want to talk to people, his "uncle" signed to him: "My darling is so handsome and so smart. No wonder they can't make a friend as wonderful as A Qi."

When he finally obeyed and ate something healthy, his "uncle" bought him a supercar and asked him to take him for a drive: "A Qi is eighteen now. You should have a car of your own."

He praised him. Fed him. Went with him to his tutoring classes. Every day, he carried him into the hospital building for rehabilitation without ever growing impatient.

When Qi Zhinan cried, Chu Qinghan's eyes darkened to a deep red. "Who bullied you?"

Only Qi Zhinan knew that for the first time, it felt as though someone had discovered him, seeing through the soft, faint gleam of his broken, shadowy moon.

"Will we be together?" he asked Chu Qinghan through tears in sign language.

Chu Qinghan chuckled and claimed his tears as his own, tasting them as he swallowed. "That's not up to me. It's up to A Qi."

A healing story.
