In his sophomore year of college, Jiang Song agreed to meet Qu Xian at his family's urging.
On his 22nd birthday, he returned to Qu Xian's home with their freshly issued marriage certificate in hand to meet his parents.
Jiang Song is 22, born into a wealthy family. He has three older brothers and two older sisters. His eldest brother is 42, and his nephew is 17. Jiang Song was a late-in-life surprise.
With elders above him and children below, he doesn't have to inherit the family business and can happily live off his family. Free to pursue whatever interests him, he never expected to be exceptionally quick at learning. He'll study anything and can do everything, and somehow he does it all well. He's the perfect kid everyone else's parents wish they had.
He knows how hard it is to keep such a large family business going, so even though he can afford to be a freeloader, he doesn't leave his family to fend for themselves. He occasionally steps in to handle social engagements. He's handsome, always smiling, and has a silver tongue. He can negotiate deals and play golf with clients, or catch a cheating husband and deal with his mistress. Everyone loves him.
The thing is, he's very aware of his own charm. Whenever someone confesses to him, he turns them down with a smile. When people wonder how so many can like him, he just smiles and says, "I'm so great. Isn't it only natural that people like me?"
He's very particular about his appearance and loves looking good. Every morning, he steps on the scale and carefully monitors his weight and measurements. He's the sort of vain little cat who'll go out to eat with his husband, get stuffed, then whine and immediately chug a cup of black coffee to make up for it.
As for his husband, he's a 36-year-old older, fatherly type.
They met through a matchmaking arrangement. He's rather old-fashioned, and after falling in love with Jiang Song at first sight, he decided that, as the older man, he should first win over Jiang Song's family before pursuing him, so Jiang Song wouldn't be put in a difficult position later. He also thought it was the respectful thing to do for Jiang Song and his family. It took a great deal of effort before Jiang Song's family finally agreed to introduce them.
He knows Jiang Song might look down on him for being older, but he considers himself quite the catch in their social circle. He's fit, wealthy, and refined, and he never sleeps around. He's taken good care of himself over the years, so he looks no older than his early thirties. He's good-looking, too. Aside from the age gap, he thinks he's a match for Jiang Song in every way.
At their first meeting, Jiang Song really was interested in him.
After all, he likes men who are older than him and like to boss him around. And this older man really is quite charming.
Older man, younger wife; both each other's first love; one-on-one romance; happy ending.
Theme: Sincere love is precious.
