1. Jian Ting first met Xu Yizhou just as her tutoring session ended.

A torrential rain was falling outside. Xu Yizhou had come to visit the family she tutored for, and since they were headed the same way, he offered her a ride back to school.

In the back seat of the black Bentley, raindrops drummed urgently against the windows.
